I attended here with my boyfriend for a late breakfast. From looking at their website the venue looked pretty cool but we were somewhat disappointed when attending. We ordered our food at the cash desk being two English breakfasts and a tea and coffee totalling just under £25.00 and then went to sit by the window at one of the two available tables. Both were unclean at the time but this may have just because they hadn't had a chance to clean them yet. Our drinks came over first and I asked kindly that our table be cleaned. This was done with a sponge scourer which left the table dripping wet and the food from the table was just brushed all over the floor and seating. I got a sense of attitude and unwillingness from the staff which I disapprove of as I have too worked within the catering industry and I expect politeness and passion when completing the job. I then had dirty cutlery served with my tea and there were black bits in my milk. We were then served our breakfast which was cold and the eggs undercooked which seeped through to the bread. At no point were we asked by staff if our food or drinks were ok. Until there is an improvement on cleanliness, attentiveness of staff and a better standard of food produced I will not be attending this venue again, which is a shame as it appears that when this venue first opened it was one of the...
Read moreDespite enjoying many brunches at Smugglers over the past few years, I had such an awful experience today that I will probably never return.
The casual atmosphere that usually gives this venue its charm, was overworked to the point where we were ignored when we arrived and had to seek out someone to take our order. Of the two side dishes we ordered, one arrived after we'd already finished and the other failed to turn up at all.
When we paid our bill and complained about the tardiness of the food, we were given not an apology, but a defensive tirade about how the oven wasn't working properly and were told to look at the hob to see for ourselves. We were made to feel that the inability to cook food was somehow our fault, and how dare we complain about it. The pigheaded attitude of the man behind the counter is something I would not expect in any kind of establishment that respects...
Read moreI used to go in here from time to time and the coffee is always nice, too bad about the staff though. Sometimes they're friendly but if the owner/manager isn't there the staff look at you like they'd rather you weren't there. I went in on New Years day or around that time and 2 young girls and a boy were in there having a chat. They gave me a dirty look as I walked in and then one, very slowly walked behind the counter, no hello, no smile nothing. I walked out and haven't been back since. Not being funny but if that was my place I'd be livid. It's not like I ever see them that busy and there are 3 great coffee shops to pick from right beside them so no skin off my nose going to Grind, Bonjour Putney...
