Huong Viet in Shoreditch is a gem for anyone looking for authentic Vietnamese food that is fully halal. I recently visited for dinner and was impressed from start to finish. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming feel, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. Staff were friendly, happy to explain dishes, and made sure we were comfortable throughout the meal. A big shout-out to Agnieszka, who took care of us.
We ordered a wide selection of dishes to share, and every plate that arrived at the table was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. To start, the Wrapped Grilled Beef was a highlight. The beef was tender, perfectly marinated, and wrapped in a way that made it easy to enjoy without losing the flavors. The Hoi An Pancake came out crisp and golden, with a generous filling that paired nicely with the dipping sauce. This dish stood out for its texture, with a light crunch giving way to a soft and tasty inside.
The Salt and Pepper Prawns were another standout starter. Cooked just right, they had a satisfying bite with a balance of spice and seasoning that made them addictive. The Crispy Combo Platter was ideal for sharing, offering a mix of items that gave us the chance to try different flavors and textures in one dish. This is a good option if you are visiting for the first time and want to sample a variety of what the restaurant has to offer.
For mains, we went for the Chicken Nutty Curry, which was rich, creamy, and aromatic. The sauce was thick and flavorful, making it perfect to eat with the accompanying Steamed Rice. The curry had just the right amount of spice, keeping it balanced without overwhelming the other flavors. The Singapore Noodles were also delicious, with a generous portion size and well-balanced seasoning. The noodles had that slight smoky flavor that comes from a hot wok, which added depth to the dish.
To drink, we tried the refreshing mocktails such as Passion Kiss and Pretty Lychee, both refreshing and not overly sweet. They were a nice complement to the savory dishes and offered a change from the usual soft drinks.
To finish, we had the Mango Sago, which was the perfect dessert after a filling meal. It was light, creamy, and refreshing, with a natural sweetness from the mango that didn’t feel heavy. It left us satisfied without being too much.
Overall, the dining experience at Huong Viet was excellent. The food was authentic, fresh, and clearly made with care. The fact that the restaurant is fully halal makes it a fantastic option for groups and families who want to enjoy Vietnamese cuisine together. The service charge was fair considering the attentive service, and the overall bill reflected the quality and quantity of what we ordered.
I would highly recommend Huong Viet to anyone looking for Vietnamese food in Shoreditch. It’s a place worth visiting, whether you’re after a casual meal or a...
Read moreFood so good im writing this review while still sitting at the table! Holy god this place does a DEADLY banh mi!!!! Can only speak for the banh mi though the food on the tables around me also looked stunning.
I wandered in about half an hour ago for an off the cuff dinner this Sunday evening, and as a good sign already the restaurant was pleasantly busy even on a Sunday. They were able to seat me as a party of 1 immediately, and my order was taken promptly. I asked which of the banh mi’s was most recommended out of the crispy pork belly and the aromatic duck and the lovely waitress recommended pork belly - she was right.
It came quickly, within 10 mins, and there is a separate little area out the front where you can see someone making the banh mi’s fresh to order. The bread was so delicious, crispy crust and airy inside, and it was stuffed to the brim with slices of crispy pork belly (not dry at all but also not too fatty which is perfect for what I like). It was honestly a flavour bomb, and full of shredded pickled carrot and daikon and dripping with this unreal sauce as well as chicken liver pate.
also just a really understated cosy cosy place, and I was left alone to enjoy my book without being rushed out. I paid just over £15 for a pot of jasmine tea and a crispy pork banh mi, including service. Will defo...
Read moreI came here after an apartment viewing because it was reviewed as one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in east london. 3 stars might be a bit rough as nothing was objectively bad. The service was nice, vibes were calm, and food was average. I just think it was over priced for what it was compared to other restaurants around london that I’ve enjoyed more.
I ordered the bun with veggie spring rolls and prawn toast. The spring roll was crispy and full of flavor. However the sauce and the bowl lacked depth of flavor and ingredients. Apart from the spring rolls I felt like I could have made this at home. The prawn toast was good, however the way the bread was cut made it feel like it was more bread than anything. And it came with not enough sauce to my liking.
The service was really nice; they came quickly to take my order and I didn’t have to wait too long to ask for the bill. There was a nice warmth about the staff that made the experience quite nice. The lime mint water was a really nice touch. If my meal had been £20 instead of £25 I would have given 4 stars. Or 5 for more elevated ingredients.
I’d already taken a few bites in...
