Just don't shop here.
I will start by saying that I live just nextdoor and have been a good client of this place for years, since the salmon box was only £9.99- I basically paid these guys' wages during covid lol.
But something recently happened, and the switch was SO bad. The prices increased of almost 50% in a couple years, and the quality is not as good as before, it's actually not good at all anymore. I got food poisoning at least a couple times last year so I stopped going as frequently and moved to other sushi places.
I ordered a couple Too Good To Go over the past year as it's so close to where I live I wanted to check it out again- I thought something was off the first time but didn't quite realise what it was, and I confirmed it with last order I did a couple days ago, which has definitely been my last one. The the quality is still bad, the prices are getting ridiculous, and this thing they do with Too Good To Go is so shameful I can't even.
Basically, they keep a couple sushi boxes in the fridge for you to grab in the store, as all sushi stores do, but when you order a Too Good To Go what they do is: they take the box from the fridge back to the kitchen, take the two pieces of sashimi out of the box, and then give you that same box.
I don't think they're doing anything illegal of course, but it's just so low. Given the Too Good To Go "values", and considering that all this happens with every box you order through that, always around 10pm so almost closing time, and that I have in video that they say they'll use the two pieces of sashimi for another box, this is just shameful (happy to forward the video to anyone!).
It's not like this is a struggling business trying to do what it can to stay afloat, this is just greediness. It's just a way for them to take advantage of clients as much as possible, not to reduce food waste. Even because, if you go at the same time as the TGTG window, you can purchase that same box but with the two pieces of sashimi included, for about £7, which is almost double as the £4 TGTG box. I simply cannot believe they got so low to save on two pieces (two!) of sashimi. They only put two or three boxes on TGTG per day (when they do), so we're talking about literally 4 to 6 pieces. Out in the chill fridge for hours then back in the kitchen- no wonder I got food poisoning other times.
All this to say: don't shop here! There are plenty of sushi places around this area that have way better...
Read moreThis establishment cancelled my Too Good To Go order a mere 10 minutes before the collection window—while I was already in transit. This is not just a minor inconvenience; it is a grossly unprofessional act and shows a complete disregard for your customers. As a direct result of your failure, I was left without a meal for the evening. The entire premise of using a service like this is to reliably secure food. Your last-minute cancellation raises a fundamental question: am I expected to prepare a 'backup' dinner every time I place an order with you, thus creating the very food waste this system is supposed to prevent? The lack of foresight is staggering and defeats the entire purpose of the service. Consequently, I was forced to purchase a full-price dinner elsewhere at the last minute, negating any benefit of my original order and adding unexpected cost and stress to my evening. For a service failure of this magnitude, the bare minimum I would expect is a proactive offer to make it right, such as a complimentary meal for the trouble you caused. Instead, all I received was the automatic refund from the app. This is not compensation; it is an insultingly inadequate response to a problem you created. A...
Read moreBeen three times. Staff are friendly and effort has been put into the decor. And the sushi is freshly made and well priced but… If you’re intending to eat in be prepared to have your head on a swivel. One visit on a summer afternoon there were multiple arrests directly outside, screaming and commotion most of the visit. Another visit on a summer evening there was so much shouting happening outside that the normally boisterous delivery drivers were sheltering quietly inside the restaurant. Gets even worse. Before our food was even brought over someone on drugs came very close to tables with bags and coats on chairs. When our party turned round and asked if they were ok they sat at another table but plugged in a phone charger near us. Spent the next 45 minutes muttering and banging their head on the table. We cut short our meal. Only time we went and didn’t have issues like this was the second time during a January cold snap and earlier in the day. Thought the first time was just a blip but apparently not. Shame as otherwise Iro Sushi would have been at least a four...
