That was a really great discovery of the recent London trip. They serve delicious and fresh fish: tried the Skate and grilled baby squid - both worth recommendation. But also the best steak and kidney pie I ever ate (and I am tasting those every time I am in London)! This was a true gem really: it tastes very homemade on one hand, but the flavours of meet and kidney works so well together opening level by level, that it also is a chef quality on the other. Definitely place worth visiting. The staff is friendly and nice, if a bit lost sometimes (i.e. forgetting parts of the order - visited twice, got that twice 😉), but this is just minor nuisance. Friendliness prevails.

Although service was relatively fast, I question whether it was freshly made or pull from stock. Received a rude reply from the waitress when asking which fish she recommends : "I've been working here for 9 years, of course I've tried them both". Unless inflation is hitting super hard, the fish is a third of the size it normally be.. The chips looked good but didn't taste great and weren't exactly piping hot. To be honest there are better stalls on the street during lunch time which offer better quality for the same £ or less. I've had better fish & chips. Disappointed - This does not represent the classic British Fish & Chips

The Cod Fish was served fresh and hot along side the chips, which was nicely seasoned with salt and onion vinegar, The staff ladies were very friendly and helpful and told me would have to wait 10 minutes before I could be served because they wanted to cook the cod and chips fresh, when I received the box it was piping hot my daughter enjoyed the fish and chips and liked the onion vinegar taste on the chip, will definitely go back, noticed chairs outside the restaurant would be a great idea to eat in one day soon.

I had an absolutely appalling experience at this restaurant. I had been eagerly waiting for 30 minutes, hoping to have a pleasant dining experience, but it turned out to be a complete disappointment. Not a single staff member bothered to welcome me or take my order during that agonizing half-hour.

What made matters worse was witnessing customers arriving well after me being promptly attended to while I continued to be ignored. It was crystal clear that I was being discriminated against for some reason unknown to me. When I finally mustered the courage to ask the staff about this unjust treatment, they casually brushed it off with the absurd excuse that they didn't see me. How can anyone believe such a blatant lie?

I don't think I've ever felt this disrespected and humiliated in a restaurant before. As a paying customer, I expected basic courtesy and equal treatment, but clearly, this place has no regard for customer satisfaction or fairness.

Needless to say, I promptly left the restaurant without ordering anything, and I will never return. I urge others to steer clear of this establishment unless you enjoy waiting endlessly, receiving subpar service, and possibly facing discrimination based on an arbitrary criterion.

In a city filled with numerous dining options, there's no reason to subject yourself to such a deplorable experience. I sincerely hope the management of this restaurant takes this review seriously and addresses the fundamental issues that plague their establishment. Until then, I advise everyone to look elsewhere for a more welcoming and respectful...

It's really disappointing to drop the rating from five to two stars, but unfortunately the service at the Whitecross branch continues to remain inconsistent and decline. The two main issues which should be addressed by the management:

Don't treat your regular, physical clients as second class citizens. Even if you take the care to order in advance, your order will consistently be de-prioritised against orders placed via Just Eat, Deliveroo or Uber Eats. We have regularly observed our haddock order being packaged up for app-based orders, with a feeble apology offered for the "mistake" that continues to happen week after week.

Be consistent throughout the week. I have made the mistake of ordering dinner on Tuesday and Thursdays, where the fish orders are not at all consistent with the quality of food made on a Friday. It is clear that the oil is either not replenished daily, or inexperienced cooks manage the fryers on the quieter days. Either way, the fish and chips either look/are burnt, or have a darker colour coating suggesting the use of old oil.

This review marks the end of my patience with this branch -- I will almost certainly look to switch to the Goswell Road branch in the...

We walked for half an hour to get here, as we last had a great meal here a year or so ago, and my partner has been coming here for 40 years. We thought the lady who ran it was lovely, and she was half the reason we wanted to go back. We arrived 20 minutes before it closed but were told we couldn’t eat in (it’s only fish and chips, not a three course meal!). It was pouring with rain by this point, so we asked if we could eat a takeaway sitting under their awning instead (there were already people just starting a meal sitting outside). We were told we couldn’t do that either. We stood under the awning, next to a free table and chairs that we weren’t allowed to sit at, and finished our food long before the people sitting at the other table. The fish and chips, by the way, were mediocre, and definitely not worth a special trip. What a shame that another great British chip shop has been taken over by people who don’t care about either food or service. As a side point, shortly after we arrived a party of seven arrived looking for fish and chips (it looked as though lots of people were leaving the Barbican) and they were refused...
