When I heard of the Filipino-Columbian Fusion, I was excited as these are both cuisines I enjoy.
To start my review, I booked for 7 people originally for my birthday. We were told by Angelica that there was a set menu of £40pp or we could have the A La Carte but with a minimum spend of £280 for 7 guests. We were then told we could have the A La Carte for £210 for 7 guests(£30pp) at an earlier time which we ended up opting for.
A few days prior (more than their 72-hour notice) I emailed Angelica to notify her one of my party had opted out of the meal, but I received radio silence from their side. I tried sending follow-up emails and even calling the number on the business card I received, but alas I received radio silence.
On the day, one of my friends wanted to bring her friend and due to the lack of response, we assumed it would be ok. When I arrived at the restaurant I mentioned this to our very kind waiter who asked Angelica who then came out in chef whites( which I find to be an unprofessional attire to be conversing with guests of your restaurant) and I found her attitude to be curt, and unprofessional. I mentioned to her that she never responded to have her say "Do I need to?". After many attempts of pleading from me and other members of my party, she allowed us to have the other guest under the provision we returned the extra table within an hour and a half.
During the evening, the reception from the 2 owners was frankly frosty. We never received a smile from either of them, which didn't make for the nicest atmosphere and we were made to feel we were stepping on eggshells around them. Three of my party were Filipino and asked questions regarding the regions of where the dishes came from in the Philippines, however, the staff showed little enthusiasm to our questions, which implies they have little pride over the food they serve their guests.
When the food came, it was ok, but I received more authentic Filipino food at Boxpark. I understand this is a fusion restaurant, however, when my friends who are from this region mention this, it makes sense. The food was also slightly bland and almost tasted burnt.
We didn't have dessert, but my friend made deserts which she brought with her I heard her speaking to the staff quietly but the male owner shouted "Corkage fee" which ruined the surprise for me, and gave me work for hospitality and understanding the terminology, this isn't great considering they knew why we were there(for my birthday)
Overall, appalling customer service. Didn't make us feel welcome, and I feel the owners would benefit from not only participating in a customer service course but also basic manners as I felt they lacked in this area too.
The little pearl of redemption is the atmosphere. The playlist they chose to play was great, and my party was vibing to this as we were waiting for our meal. The interior design in this restaurant is nice too, but I feel are used to mask the basic issues that in my opinion are common sense to running an...

Leaving the one star for the lovely bar tender and the concept as it was a super cool idea.
A horrible dining experience from start to finish with so much potential. It was a fabulous concept, executed extremely poorly. Such a shame as we traveled from a long way and were so excited.
It is not often that you experience such hostility from someone trying to run a restaurant. A foul, unprofessional attitude from Anjecila who spoke to us like we were incompetent children who didn't know what good food and service was meant to feel/taste like. Usually when you complain about dissatisfaction with a meal which you have every right to be dissatisfied about you are met with kindness and understanding, not told 'maybe this food isn't for you' and 'everyone else seemed to enjoy there food' and 'this is what Filipino food tastes like' Babe, we know what cheese and bread and bacon and egg is meant to taste like!
You would have thought after many reviews echoing the points I will address in this review that she would reconsider her style of hospitality. I hope you do - it would go a long way!
We arrived at 6pm. Waited an hour without a welcome drink but the option to buy a drink which I think is bad form for a £60 tasting menu. Clearly a way to make more money. We had a small box of popcorn on the table to share which was a cute touch but could have been one each and also have been a bit of a fun flavour to get the tastebuds dancing.
Onto the 4 courses and two drinks.
Bread and cheese - which was literally bread and cheese. The cheese also has soft mould growing on it in areas so we avoided it. No playful twist on the first course and it was bland and boring.
Bacon and eggs - had potential to be tasty but couldn't taste any of the flavours as it was all black like soot. Tasted bitter and yucky.
Chorizo on an Arepa - Boring, bland and uncreative. Best of a bad bunch.
Coconut rice pudding - Good flavours but rice was crunchy.
Mock-tails were my favourite part of the night.
Bill came to £124 for two with no booze.
Toilets bowls were full of dried specs of number two which is not appealing in a place where you are spending decent money and eating.
We appreciated getting just under 50% of our bill back after resistance. I think we were very deserving after a...
Read moreDeptford High Street in Greenwhich transforms into a busy marketplace on weekends. Rich in history, today it is a blend of ethnicities coming together to form a colorful diaspora. The street is lined with shops and eateries selling stuff from across the continents, including Asia, Africa and Europe. KiliG is a restaurant located off Deptford High Street, known for its fusion cuisine which features food that is a blend of Colombian and Filipino. The reviews were great with a rating of 4.6 and so were the reels on Instagram. So we were expecting something extraordinary when we chose to have lunch there but were sorely disappointed. We started with the Chicken and Shrimp Lumpia which is a kind of spring roll with chicken and shrimp stuffing. The rolls looked oily on the outside and the filling was lackluster. The dip that came with the dish however was tangy and delicious. Next we had the Colombian Coffe Bavette Steak. The beef was charred at the edges, quite chewy and bland. The accompaniments consisting of Pickled Cabbage and Ensaladang Talong (Eggplant Salad) were both excellent. We followed this up with the Lechon - slow roasted pork belly accompanied with Spiced Mango Purée and Coriander Oil. The pork belly was well-cooked and the crispy skin on it gave texture and taste to an otherwise boring dish. The accompanying chutney was tasty however, and lifted the dish somewhat. For dessert we had the Mango Banoffee which somehow didn't seem to come together. The layers consisting of the rum-soaked lady finger (sponge fingers) and the calamansi cream were excellent. I'm not sure if we chose the wrong dishes or if we elected to go there on a not so great day, but the food somehow didn't live up to expectations. The Service however...
