Delightful and well station-next-to-located crafty coffee and bake shop in Deptford, Mouse Tail Coffee offers a delightful and appetising selection of breakfast and elevenses type savoury and sweet baked treats.
The all-day breakie sandwich, beautifully presented in brown wrapped paper cut in half ala Japanese style, was a tasty morsel and filled an early morning space in my tum. My partner enjoyed her egg and cheese croissant as well. Of especial note is the veggie-vegan-meaty selection as well as a range of delicious looking attisanal pizzas.
The coffee was exceptional, my cortado presented in the most beautifully simple small glass cup (a miniature mug of sorts), with a talented barista’s well formed fern shape atop the foam. Being a Kiwi, I enjoyed the neat symbol reminiscent of home, Aotearoa New Zealand.
Lastly, a wonderful village-community-feel ambiance: a West-Indian Street market outside (we visited in a Sunday morning), customers of all ages and backgrounds enjoying the outdoor cafe layout as well as the cosier interior with enjoyable but unobtrusive music, kids chattering and the convivial gentle cacophony of cafe conversation.
The staff! Were. Brilliant! Friendly. Helpful and human incarnations of the cafe’s personality. Enjoy The Mouse Tail Cafe’s cafe and cookin’ soon! Now! Oh, and no sign of the farmer’s wife and the carving knife!...
Read moreI like it here because it is spacious. The high ceiling gives an extra sense of space. It's my favourite cafe so far from the newly developed arches. I find the others a bit cramped. That's ok for some I suppose but I like to feel space around me.
What's more I like that there are a few "lounge" areas with sofas and tasteful Danish style retro furniture as well as some tables for smaller groups as well as a large table that was being used by laptop workers.
The Banana bread was a thick slice and was nice. I tried a lattee. It was acceptable but not great. However it won't put me off trying again as I've been ill lately and can't trust my tastebuds 100%!
I would come here to read and have some me time and also with a friend. It's a nice spot.
The music was a bit James brown - billy ocean and smooth radio funk by numbers. Something a bit more Giles Peterson edgey would go down better I feel. But at least it wasn't terrible indie boy band nonsense as I experienced in a...
Read moreI have sadly become disappointed with Mousetail. When it first opened it was great, but recently it has lost its way. My work mates and I used to get lunch there alot but then they stopped serving small takeaway salads (good value!) and the large ones (smaller than they used to be) are rather expensive for what you get. Then today me and friend went in and she witnessed a team member throwing away a good sized portion (maybe enough for two portions) in to the bin?! We questioned it and were told there wasn't enough, which was a lie. What a waste of fine food?!! They present themselves as "trendy, eco, ethical, local" but this shows they seem to have become too big for their boots and are purely business minded. I would recommend lots of other great eateries which are better value and have great service in...
