We visited La Bodega at the weekend for a flamenco performance. The dancer, singer and guitarist were all wonderfully talented artists who each gave an outstanding performance. The venue staff were really welcoming and friendly. The bar has an authentic spanish feel, whilst the performance studio is both intimate and professional. I marked down on the food only because our email invite said that there would be 'a small range of vegan and vegetarian tapas' available in addition to the traditional paella. As a group of 4, none of whom eat fish and 3 of whom are vegetarians, we were disappointed to find that there only alternative to the seafood paella was tortilla. It would not have mattered if we had known, we could have easily eaten in advance but as the invite said there would be a few things we could eat available, we unfortunately didn't eat before arriving and then it was too late. As it was, we had a bit of tortilla and a Yorkie from the tesco next door. I'm not sure what the vegan option was as there was not even any bread or olives. This aside, we had a great evening and we would definitely go again, and I should say the paella looked fantastic so don't let our experience...
Read moreAhhh what to say… they have a really nice website and adverts. I bought tickets for a film night, and decided to book a table for dinner before. The email that replied about the reservation said I’d emailed the wrong address, despite finding that email address on their website. We turned up and we weren’t down for dinner, but never mind, there was space. And yes, like another review, it does smell overwhelmingly of oil.
The service was terrible, but this wasn’t offensive because it was so funny. A lot of dishes were brought wrong, and also slow.
A lot of the food was burnt (oil too hot?) and really not that flavoursome.
The film was not in Spanish, despite being advertised in Spanish with English subtitles, and the room to watch the film in is not a cinema but a room with chairs, so if you didn’t speak Guarani or could see the subtitles because you’re sat at the back, what was the point in buying a ticket?
Simply would not come back for the food, service, or to see a film. The only positive was we received a discount from the staff after complaining, which was...
Read moreLa Bodega is tremendous. My partner and I hosted a party here and were very impressed with the clear, pragmatic, open and helpful communication from Crispin throughout the process of arranging details as well as his fluid and can-do approach to planning the night. It gave us a sense of reassurance to be dealing with someone so brilliantly human!
The attendance on the night was great too led by Lana, and supported by a capable team.
We had some delicious paella and an array of tapas for our guests and also surprised everyone with a salsa class, both of which went down a treat.
Our guests were totally impressed by the space itself and I am so glad we came across it. I will be back to sample more of the dance classes and am interested too in the many other cultural offerings across their website.
I really can't speak highly enough of the space, the staff and...
