Visiting The Laughing Halibut was a win! Nestled in the heart of London, this charming eatery exceeded our expectations. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warm smiles, hospitality and a picture perfect small dinner off the beaten path experience.
The ambiance of the place is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual dinner experience. It truly captures the essence of a quaint London eatery, with its intimate setting and friendly atmosphere. It was a cold rainy night and it felt like we stepped back in time.
Now, let's talk about the food. We indulged in their cod and halibut dishes, and let me tell you, they were nothing short of amazing! The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. We are from the States and have never had halibut like this before. It was very hearty and not translucent like back home. Everything was freshly cooked.
What truly sets The Laughing Halibut apart is that they take personal pride in crafting each dish with care and attention to detail.
And it's not just us who think highly of this place. Judging by the glowing reviews from other patrons, it's clear that The Laughing Halibut has earned a reputation for consistently delivering a top-notch experience.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, I highly recommend paying them a visit. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. It's a true hidden gem in London and one that deserves to be named so.
I searched for the best fish and chips and took a chance on this spot because it was close to our lodging (and of course I loved the name 😊). If you're also looking for the best fish and chips in London, look no...

Our friends wanted to experience traditional fish and chips and to be honest, British chips are the first thing I crave whenever I return to the UK—nothing back home even comes close. I researched potential fish and chip shops prior to our trip, knowing our planned schedule and looking for shops close to our hotel.
The Laughing Halibut was one which was highly recommended online. A quick Google search showed me the perfect, traditionally chippy so, feeling satisfied it would work I added it to our potential itinerary.
We arrived about 45 mins before closing and were greeted by friendly "Frymasters" with cheeky London accents and smiles. It was perfect. Our fish and chips, with sides of mushy peas and curry sauce, arrived promptly to our table and we tucked in. We were riding high on salt, vinegar, and nostalgia! That is, until we needed the bathroom - ugh!! It was disgusting and I mean disgusting. Had we popped in there first we would have headed straight out of the shop.
Come on, team—when your bathroom looks like it’s straight out of a horror film, it kills the appetite. Clean it up, and you’ll have...
Read moreIf you are not local, and want to try some great local fare this is your place. Eat where the locals eat. This place was within easy walking distance of our hotel and we wanted to do some fish/chips. Given the majority of the reviews it was obvious this low key restaurant was going to deliver on food and service. When we arrived there were at least six people in line getting take away, line out the door.
I had the scampi (shrimp) and chips and the hubs got the Haddock and chips. The service was on point, quick and very friendly. The food came fast, but not too fast and was fresh (never thought I would describe fried food as fresh but whatever) and super tasty. I had to try that HP sauce and I guess it was not bad... hard to describe. At any rate, we loved our meal at this local gem and the price including tip was fantastic (especially in contrast to other restaurants we tried...
