Upon arriving to the restaurant, the impressive decor cannot be avoided and I was looking forward to my evening. I was the first to arrive and my drink took 25 minutes, delivered by an apologetic waiter. My friends arrived shortly after, and their drinks took 30 minutes, but we brushed it off as we wanted to concentrate on our evening. Eventually, we were seated, and upon placing our order, my friend asked if the meat was halal. The waiter responded with; "Why do you care, you are drinking aren't you?!" We were all shocked with his response, and calmly advised that it is a simple yes or no answer and that judging her was completely unprofessional. The waiter continued to be rude, still not giving her the answer. Due to this, I asked for a different waiter who was very polite and helpful. Unfortunately, our food took well over an hour to arrive, so we were not eating until 11.20pm! During this time, the only communication we had was with the very apologetic waiter who took our order. We advised that we would like to speak to the manager once we have eaten and he advised he would communicate that to them. We were still very uncomfortable with the discriminatory treatment by the first waiter. Eventually, the food arrived, and it was okay, by far not the best Turkish food I had, but I ate it as I was incredibly hungry. Deserts we did not order arrived to soften our complaint, but we did not eat them. Afterwards we spoke to who we thought was the manager, and it turns out he was second in command, having sent the actual manager home due to a back ache. He was incredibly defensive and not taking our conversation seriously. He laughed when we told him about the first waiter and during our conversation kept looking around instead of focusing on us.This was incredibly unprofessional. He accused of us of trying not to pay for a meal, rather than resolving a case of discrimination and beyond acceptable delay of the food. He did take the credit for sending over deserts- which he saw were not welcome at this point. He did not show any managerial skills whatsoever. Eventually, one of the owners sat down to speak with us and was calm and approachable in his manner. He advised that he was not aware of the discrimination earlier, only the delay of the food. I calmly communicated that it is sad that we were put in a position of who is white, who is non white, who is drinking, who is not etc. to defend a simple question of meat being halal or not. In a world full of discrimination, my friend should not be just 'used to it' and we went out for a meal to enjoy ourselves, not defend our drinking and eating habits. We strongly emphasised the difference between the brilliant waiter we had and the first one, alongside the second manager. Some money was taken off the meal but I cannot say I enjoyed my evening as it was more of a battle of discrimination, terrible service and lack of food delivery. The decor gives a great impression of the place, but if as much money was invested in the staff and the food, it could be a fantastic place. I have travelled the world and eaten in a lot of places with great food and service, but to face such treatment down the road from where I live is beyond absurd. Needless to say, I have no desire to...
Read moreReally disappointed in my visit I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday which turned out to be an absolute disaster, firstly I would like to say there is no parking lights what's so ever, this needs some serious attention. when entering there was a lady with black hair with a smug look on her face didn't care to even welcome us nor smile (possibly the manager) I was seated by this lovely lady Okan, after being seated i went up to the reception desk to tell them at the end of our service i would like them to prepare the birthday cake as a surprise the 2 ladies standing there heard me clearly and said that is fine, they will arrange it.
During the course of your meal a large number of people arrived for a party with young children, even though it states clearly on their Instagram page no children after 18:00, they we're very loud and other customers sat near us even got up and moved as their waiter didn't bother to move them. I ordered the pan-fried chicken i was seriously disappointed it was tasteless as if it was cooked out of a packet it was nothing but boiled chicken in a tasteless sauce with a large amount out of overcooked mushrooms. My sister ordered the Lamb shish which came on a very thin slice of salty thin type of naan bread and the meat was mainly fat and i came across many parts that we're undercooked the meal was far from worth £23.90. During our meal not once did a server come and ask if everything was okay with our meal.
After our mains I sat and waited for 25 minutes for the birthday cake to come out, in this time our server was replaced and he kept mentioning to us "have you been served, I just started, I don't know", personally coming from myself that is not professional the previous server should of made him aware. I then had to get up and go to the front desk and ask the lady what is going on with the cake, the lady who i believe was management rudely said "well i don't know you never told me, i can't do anything" when I clearly made her and her colleague aware at the very start, i was then taken aside by a man possibly management i explained everything that has happened and he apologised, then 5 minutes later he brought the cake out.
When receiving the bill i explained my frustration and the only thing that was removed was the service charge and the cake. The man who removed it from our bill was very apologetic and offered us many complimentary items however we refused after the way we was treated. Whilst leaving the same smug lady didn't smile and was very stuck up.
Overall, the food was not worth the price, the service was terrible, had to ask the waitress for condiments she didn't know what that meant leaving me to tell her it means sauces. Will not be returning or recommending, don't bother wasting...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews, as I believe in living and learning from experiences, but my visit to Lokkum Bar and Grill was notable enough to warrant sharing.
My evening began with a long Uber ride from Croydon, which took about an hour and ten minutes. Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly by a lovely lady at the entrance, setting a positive tone for the evening. However, things took a turn once we were seated. Our party of four arrived early, and while we waited for the others, we placed our drink orders.
I ordered a glass of water, but when I took a sip, I was taken aback by an overwhelming smell that resembled raw eggs. The other members of my party noticed the same foul odor emanating from the glass. We brought this to the attention of our male waiter, who was courteous enough to replace the glass and assured us that the water would be complimentary, after he confirmed the unpleasant smell himself.
When the rest of our party arrived, we all ordered from the menu. Unfortunately, many of the dishes lacked flavor and left a lot to be desired. As a picky eater, I opted for chicken wings as my main course, believing it to be a safe choice. However, when my wings arrived, I noticed they looked peculiar. The inside was white, which I initially thought might be due to the grilling process. After managing to eat one wing and a few chips, I found that the wings were not only coated in rice but one had a bite taken out of it; not by me, of course.
I signaled for the waiter to come over so I could show her my plate. She was quick to apologize and offered to replace the dish, but by that point, I was already quite turned off by the whole situation and decided to decline her offer. Not long after, the manager approached us in a rather confrontational manner, insisting on knowing who had returned the wings. I took the time to explain what had happened, but instead of addressing my concerns, he accused me of mixing my food with someone else's. My friends and I made it clear that I had carefully chosen a simple dish and would never combine my food with anyone else's. I don’t eat from just anyone, especially since they were all enjoying seafood and various mixed platters. His accusations were confusing and unreasonable, particularly because I had opted for the simplest option available on the menu.
Initially, I didn't plan to write a review due to the initial apology from the lady at the entrance, but the manager's approach was unacceptable and left a sour taste. To top it all off, they also got our bill wrong, which took an additional 10 to 15 minutes to sort out.
Overall, my experience at Lokkum Bar and Grill was disappointing, characterized by subpar food and poor customer service. Would...
