🚇 Whitechapel 🍺 £6.10 Heineken ❤️ A solid boozer with lots of entertainment on offer. . The London Hospital Tavern or LHT as it is known locally is located on busy Whitechapel Road and next to The Royal London Hospital. Getting here is easy, Whitechapel station is just across the road. . The London Hospital Tavern was built in 1753 for builders of the Royal London Hospital, It was rebuilt in its current form in 1875. In 2006 this pub went rogue and decided to rebrand and call itself the LHT Urban Bar, the pub was also painted with a tiger stripes all over the building, thankfully in 2020 the pub’s facade was restored and original name reinstated. . The decor here is conventional and functional with lots of wood abound. There is a good size servery, plenty of seating and a piano tucked away in the corner. This pub shows live premier league and other premium sports on the screens dotted around the bar. There are benches at the front of the pub for enjoying a beer in the warmer months or maybe a spot of people watching. . There is a good mix of beers to choose from including a couple of cask options. I decided on a Heineken, my pint was good with a slightly above average price point. The food menu is all about Burgers, Bao Buns and Burritos, a bacon and cheese burger costs £13. . I visited around 3pm on a Saturday and the pub was fairly quiet with a few punters dotted around. The service was good, the chap who served me was pleasant and welcoming. This pub really gets going in the evenings and is popular with NHS workers from the hospital as well as students from the nearby university. There is another bar upstairs called the Mosaic Bar, it hosts all manner of entertainment from live music, jazz, karaoke ,comedy nights and much more. Check out the pubs Insta page for upcoming events. . The @londonhospitaltavern is a steady boozer that offers its punters a solid beer and food experience which doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. A big bonus here is the variety of entertainment on offer which has a bit something for everyone. Worth a visit if you’re in the area. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreA bar situated close to a hospital for good reason. The food comes out questionably cold, at different times & with cutlery’s that has gum holding it together.
Venturing in, it it’s seemingly quite welcoming with a selection of gins & beers on tap. Thinking it suitable to hunker down and have a bite to eat it, it then all falls to pieces & the rose tinted vision of once a cheap & cheerful east London pub then becomes a cheap, tacky & unpleasant experience. A party of five order simply five burgers (their supposed speciality) & their 3-4-£12 side order. After forty minutes, one burger arrives, the chips cold the burger sloppily arranged & left to wait for the other four to turn up. After giving up on the others arriving in a timely manner we had to press the front of house to find out what was going on. The disconnect between the kitchen and front of house was obvious but that is then somehow the customers problem, why ? Because after asking where I food was it just happened to be in the food shoot sitting unheated slowly steaming itself to bacterial heaven. Again the chips are cold the burgers even more so badly arranged & the side orders....well I would expect for £6 the prawns in “coated in a light batter” would be ample & coated in a light batter. Three prawns that are mostly batter was not what I expected to see.
Then after having to ask for cutlery, the wrapped cutlery was stuck together with someone else’s gum. A food health issue sure but at-least redeemable from the manager who was stood at our table trying to sort another problem. But alas no, his disregard for the situation was aggravating but the smirk & laugh at it was disgusting.
All the makings of a good earner pub but not worth even...
Read moreIn 2024 I don't expect to have to blacklist pubs for failing to deal with drunk, harassing men who are not only not cut off but also permitted to stay in the venue.
But here we are. Friends and I rehearse locally and this place had good vibes on a scouting trip. Booked a spot last night. But on arrival there was a very drunk man at the bar who tried to hit on one of the group, which they ignored but then he decided it would be a good idea to follow her over to our tables. They tried to politely tell him to leave us alone and then he began to slur at (in both senses of the word) three women in our group.
The first person he started on told the bar staff and asked if they could do something about it but she then saw him again 30min later nearby. So people didn't really feel safe getting up to the bar after that.
Won't be...
