I visited Feast and Mishti in Whitechapel for lunch today, and had an extremely unpleasant experience.
The restaurant has an indoor seating area for buffet diners and a takeaway stand outside selling items like chotpoti, wings, and lamb/chicken rolls. I purchased food from the takeaway section and assumed it was fine to eat inside, since it was all from the same establishment.
However, I was met with hostility and a complete lack of hospitality from the staff.
I asked the male waiter working inside for some sauces, and he told me he’d bring them over shortly. However, he served three other customers before me, all while looking at me and repeatedly saying, “Wait, I’ll bring it. I’m bringing it.” It ended up taking him around ten minutes to finally bring what I had asked for. I was just made to wait an unnecessarily long time.
The man working at the takeaway section from earlier, who served me, came up to me while I was eating and started confronting me. He repeatedly insisted that I wasn’t allowed to eat inside and made me feel like I had done something wrong. He told me the indoor area was only for buffet customers and claimed there was an extra charge for dining inside—even though none of this had been communicated beforehand. He kept continuously hassling me, saying am I going to pay extra charges for the sauces or for sitting inside, and that he’s going to lose his job. I tried to explain the misunderstanding and even apologised, saying it was an honest mistake, but I was continuously spoken down to and made to feel like I was a burden. He leaned over my table, got in my face, and even questioned where I got my drink from, implying I had brought it in from somewhere else or stolen it.
Throughout the interaction, the staff were giving me looks—eyeing me up and down in a way that made me feel judged and disrespected. They stared me down like I was some low-class intruder or someone trying to scam them for a free meal, rather than a paying customer. It was humiliating.
The man from the takeaway eventually brought over the manager/person in charge, reiterating the same thing—that the inside area was only for buffet customers, and there was an added charge to sit inside. Again, there was no attempt to handle the situation with empathy.
As if that wasn’t enough, the same male waiter from earlier, followed me into the ladies’ restroom to tell me I needed to dispose of my packaging at the front, where the till was (like it’s my job to do that). This was a serious invasion of privacy and completely unprofessional. I couldn’t find a bin inside the restaurant, so I chucked it in the bin in the restroom.
Overall, the experience was horrendous and extremely uncomfortable. The lack of respect, hospitality and unwelcoming attitude was completely out-of-order and unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who values being treated with basic decency...

Read moreWe selected this venue for a large birthday party, as it was a buffet restaurant with a selection of curry and side dishes to cater for all. A selection of starters: Popadoms (broken into small pieces), wings, vegetable somosa/chips/pakora (all 3 items served on same platter). Mains they had a selection of currys, chicken, meat (not sure if lamb or mutton), fish and lentils, and biryani (which was located on the selection of the starters) Sides they had a selection of borta's (Bangladeshi side dishes) on the same section as deserts (rice pudding, gulapjam cut into halves (Indian sweet), sliced oranges and mint sauce.
How the buffet was laid out was very frustrating, as the plates were on one side in between the curry and starters, thus causing long queues. I had to change 3 plates as they were not clean.
As we were a large group, we were advised to wait to be called up. Which is understandable as the restaurant was very busy. Once we were called up, I started with popadoms, 3x wings, 1x somosa, and chips with mint sauce. The chips were cold and stale, somosa was warm, and chicken were hot (must have just been refilled). For my main, I went for 1/4 biryani and 1/4 meat curry. The biyani was really tasty, but the meat curry was very oily and all the meat was bone, (even when I stirred the tray, not found 1 price that was off bone). I then decided to finish off with rice pudding and 3x half gulapjams. The rice pudding had no taste, but the gulapjam were warm and tasted nice.
Overall, food could have been better. Especially meat/checking selections as all items had very little meat on the bone. The management certainly need to rething the layout as causing long queues and recommend that each tray has 2x serving tongs/spoons so that both sides of the buffet can use.
The service was really good, as waiters checked in with us multiple times to ensure everything was OK.
Will I come again, maybe if I was in the area, but probably explore other...
