Ah, Lulu's in Herne Hill, a place I've held dear, frequenting more often than my own fridge. It's a quaint establishment where I’ve cherished many a meal, especially at their sibling haunt, Llewellyn’s, where the dining is as rich as the history of its neighborhood. But today, I venture a slight detour into the realm of the absurd, and dare I say, the daylight robbery that occurred under the guise of a pork sandwich.
Now, let’s set the scene: Lulu's, known for its cozy ambiance and usually impeccable taste, served me a pork sandwich with the pork seemingly on a vacation. For £9, one might expect a bountiful encounter with succulent, generously stuffed slices of pork tucked between artisan bread. Instead, what landed on my plate could only be described as a culinary mirage. I peered between the bread, and to my dismay, the pork was playing a game of hide and seek. And frankly, the pork was winning.
I find myself questioning the moral fiber of an establishment that dares to serve such a sparse spectacle. One might wonder if the chefs at Lulu's were testing the bounds of existentialism, serving a sandwich that prompts diners to question the very nature of existence—or at least the existence of the filling they paid for.
Despite this, my heart remains tethered to Lulu’s, much like one remains loyal to a mischievous friend. I've savored too many good times at Llewellyn's to abandon ship over an enigmatic sandwich. However, I am compelled to issue a gentle reminder to the chefs: when one orders a pork sandwich, it is generally presumed that pork, in substantial quantity, will be a prominent feature, not a whisper or a rumor.
In conclusion, while Lulu's in Herne Hill continues to be a beacon of the community, even the most illustrious establishments must remember: when it comes to pork sandwiches, the meat is not an optional accessory; it is the heart of the matter. Lulu’s, I adore you, but let's make the pork less of a...
Read moreI’m editing this review and upgrading it from my initial rating and review below because I’ve been back a couple of times since this was posted and it’s been fantastic since. Thanks for taking my points on board and restoring trust - the service and food can’t be faulted now and I’d recommend this place to everyone…!
I was previously a big fan, but today's visit was disappointing, having not been for several weeks. Service was a letdown – the young girl on the till was unbelievably rude and seemed disinterested. While understanding bad days happen, basic politeness is expected. Management should address this. Food quality has always been excellent but was inconsistent today; my filling was super, but the bagel was slightly stale and cakey, sadly. I hope improvements are made for my next visit, particularly with that cashier who either needs some serious training and a wake-up on essential professional conduct or is replaced with someone more appreciative and deserving. I'm sorry to have had to...
Read moreNice place but had very bad service experience. I was purchasing a bottle of juice. When at the till they rung up the incorrect price. I politely pointed out the label on the shelf was incorrect. Assistant then said they would change it. I assumed they would charge me the price displayed but they clarified they would change the shelf label and there was nothing they could do. I know this is in breach of trading standards. Although I didn' lt mention this at the time. Not wanting to be petty I paid the difference but was told to take it or leave it. Which felt pretty humiliating in front of other staff and customers. I was offered no bag ( I am mobility impaired and already had my hands full) left feeling like an idiot. Suffice to say they won't be getting my...
