I have eaten at Utter Waffle twice and both times it was delightful.
We’ve sampled these dishes between us and they were all delicious to a fault and I had no criticism to make for any of them!
James, Jules and the Giant Peach (bacon, peach, honey)
The dippy eggs waffle (cheese and marmite stuffed waffles with soft boiled egg)
The Wafflin’ Chicken one (we both ordered this on our second visit as we liked the chicken dippers side so much the first time. In fact we then argued about who was going to order this before giving up and both having the same dish, which we rarely do!). Highly recommend. The hot honey is excellent. (Side note: I have never been a big fan of the traditional American chicken and waffles, I find them too sweet and it gets boring, both texturally and flavour wise to eat after a while, this version never gets boring!).
The chicken dippers side
The Waffle in PJs (I was going to decline dessert but my companion persuaded me to share this and it was so good I somehow managed to fit it in). Note: the dessert portions are a half size waffle, phew!
You can choose the size of your waffle on a few of the waffles (small or regular).
There is a separate vegan menu which has vegan versions of most things.
Service is really friendly and not just normal friendly. It’s like they are delighted to have you at their restaurant and genuinely want to make your time there enjoyable. But not in an annoying over the top way. I can’t find another way to describe this, it was very subtle!
Also it’s very dog friendly.
I recommend to book ahead to make sure you get a table. Even on weekdays it seems to get very...
Read moreUtter Waffle in Herne Hill is the kind of place you stumble upon and can't help but fall in love with instantly. It’s not just the scrumptious food or the vibrant atmosphere that draws you in—it’s the whole package, including the incredibly friendly staff who make every visit feel like a warm hug.
The menu here is a dream for any waffle enthusiast, but two dishes in particular always call my name: the “James and the Giant Peach” and the “Waffln Chickn.” Both are superbly crafted, turning the humble waffle into a star of the meal. The peach dish brings a sweet and savory melody to your palate, while the chicken waffle, crispy and tender, complements the soft waffle with just the right crunch.
And then there’s the "Best Smoothie Ever"—and it lives up to its name. This isn’t just your average blended drink; it’s a refreshing, fruity concoction that bursts with flavor and, somehow, tastes like more than just a smoothie. It’s like a cheerful boost in a glass.
Adding to the charm, Utter Waffle is super dog-friendly. They’ve got this adorable wall of pups showing off all the canine companions that have visited, which really underscores the community feel of the place. It’s a sweet reminder that everyone, on two legs or four, is welcome here.
Whether you’re local or just passing through, Utter Waffle is a must-visit spot in Herne Hill. It's perfect for a laid-back brunch, a casual meal with friends, or a sweet treat. Every visit leaves me smiling and satisfied, eager to return. So next time you're in the neighborhood, drop by, bring your pup, and maybe try the best smoothie...
Read more4.5 stars: Very tasty, well-portioned waffles! Was pretty excited to come here based on the reviews and booked a table for my husband's birthday.
Pros: The appetizers and waffles were aptly, utterly delicious!
Room for improvement:
Buggy: In advance I mentioned we'd have a buggy. Baby wise, it was a bit of a squeeze to get through and over the few steps to the back of the restaurant. The setup is not buggy friendly, though they did try to be as accommodating as they could be.
Dessert: As we were celebrating a birthday, I asked for the dessert to include a greeting. There was a massive delay with the dessert, especially in comparison to how quickly our mains arrived. We had already been waiting too long to receive the dessert when we were informed that we would have to give up our table and have our dessert to go. This obviously dampened the birthday celebration. I do commend them for not charging us for the desserts nor the service fee and for apologizing to us. Still, it would have been great to receive the dessert on time and not scramble to find somewhere to finish it.
Overall, my husband - a complete waffle lover - thought these were the best waffles he's had and I agree. This was in June, so not sure if anything has been updated. With a few improvements based on the aforementioned,...
