summary: (chinese person here) this place was pretty horrible, service was ok, food quality was poor, but they try to scam us which is why i am writing this review to counter the fake 5 star reviews on here.
long version: came to this place as was the area and looked like an authentic chinese restaurant one of the few in the area. we were greeted upon arrival by the manager (?) who mumbled and first thing he told us was "we don't have skewers anymore". imagine going to a taco bell and they tell you on arrive they don't do tacos anymore.
we ended up order a few starters / sides and a big main dish "stew with pork belly with tofu and cabbage". the starters and sides were ok, some were cooked from frozen, fine. then the main arrived and it was huge, looked promising. but then after a while of eating, we just found nothing but pork bones (and not like meaty rib bones, it was random off cut chunks of bone with trace amount of meat) inside. after a while we thought to ask if they had mixed up our order. nope, they serve this with bone now, not belly, and the price is still almost 30quid.... (ok i can make this dish for a fiver at home). so finally we had to speak with 2 different staff, and the guy offered to take a tenner off. at the end we pushed for half off (15 quid off). being from the restaurant business, i would have expected this mix-up to be just taken off the bill plain and simple and not expect the customer to have to haggle. if we didn't complain and make fuss, they would have happily charged full price, knowing that the sold you an inferior dish. probably if you are not familiar with chinese food, you wouldn't know to complain neither.
finally the bill came, we are still hungry but whatever. they had the nerve to charge service charge. so i had to send the bill back and get that knocked off too.
it's not the worse food or service, but the attitude and respect for customer (and themselves) is unacceptable.
finally... ok so this place has a loooot of fake 5 star reviews so I should warn any potential patrons. you can see all the 1 star reviews from actual...
Read moreI really enjoyed an evening meal here and can’t wait to return. The place is half supermarket and half restaurant and for a new-comer to Korean food it could be a little daunting entering for the first time - it’s not a tourist place and is truly Korean! However the waiting staff are really friendly and welcoming, happy to explain how the menu works and able to offer recommendations. The dining area isn’t overly large but the tables are spacious with some able to accommodate groups as well as couples. Everywhere was clean, comfortable and the lighting was also cosy yet practical.
They offer a ‘set menu’ where you’re free to pick from a number of options. This offered great value and also included a can of soft drink per person. Bottles of beer are also available. The service was really fast, both for getting drinks and the food actually arriving. In true Korean style it was a social occasion once the food arrived with sharing bowls and the great display of meat skewers. It was a shame there wasn’t more meat but the rest of the portion sizes were decent considering the price. Everything was full of flavour and really tasty. It’s chopsticks only here (although I didn’t try asking to see if there’s cutlery available if needed) but the whole experience was authentic and enjoyable.
In the area it’s a true cultural experience and a good one. The value for money gives a cherry on top and when you’ve enjoyed a meal you can even pick up items and ingredients to take home and try yourself! I’ll certainly be back and it’s one of the most welcoming Korean restaurants in London I’ve...
Read moreHighly Recommended for all ages, cultures and taste. I am an English octogenarian, my wife is Chinese..and younger. I don't do spicy, she loves it. I prefer fish and seafood, she goes for meat. On our visit we both found lots to choose from. The food and the service were excellent. My Dry Wok Squid Tentacles was to die for, as was the Seeet and Sour Prawn. Also excellent wee the Beef with Cumin, the Fried Pork in sweet and Sour Sauce and all the vegetables. The Restaurant was fairly busy, even at 18.00 on a Wednesday, but the Service was excellent. The clientelle was predomunately young students, of whom a good number were Chinese. Always a good sign. We are going back this Sunday, I must try the BBQ Aubergine! Richard.
We went back last night,Sunday 22. By 18.15 they were quite busy with, again, a lot of young Chinese. On the table next to us were 4 lads from Manchester who had been to the Darts World Championship and were having dinner before catching their train home at nearby Euston Station. They told us it was the best Chinese meal they had ever had. So, below is a picture of the grilled Aubergine- minus the chilies. It looked and smelled so good that I could not wait for the photographer to find her phone! It was exceptional. We also had the BBQ Squid Skewers- the best I have had and the Whole Sea Bass with Pickled Vegetables (photo)that was simply amazing. All dishes can be made spicy or non-spicy- wonderful choice for us! The Fish was on offer- incredible discount. The Restaurant is known for its special offers so it is always well worth checking out....
