I purchased a large cherry bun at £7.50 although it had been listed on the menu board as £6.50, also a sorrel drink for the price of £3.50. Total amount £11, paid by card and looked forward into having a slice of bun with the customary cheese. Much to my surprise, upon cutting the bun it started to crumble which I thought was unusual, so I cut another and although it held together, it had a rather dry taste in the mouth. I know there isn't a consistency to west Indian bun but the flavour of this bun didn't hit the spot. By the way, I purchased this bun on Sat 22nd April 2023, returned it to the shop on Monday 24th April 2023. I was greeted by the owner and his wife, a lovely couple I'd thought until I saw the horror in their eyes as I slowly pulled out the defective bun from my rattling Tesco bag, sorry for the advertisement on your website. Anyway, I proceeded to announce my experience with gusto and asked for an exchange for a fresher bun. Cha! What a ting! Luckily, I had trainers on and nobody was in the shop to block my departure. Da Boss man look pon me as if mi ah throw bad words pon him! Trust! Laawd! If him had a cutlass me would had been dead pon arrival. Now, Boss Man said to me that you could never had paid £7.50 as the price has gone up to £10 and he was prepared to exchange the bun for a smaller bun........wait for it........£8.50. Did anyone see the mug who just walked in? Nevertheless, after asking him, Why he looked the way he did, he replaced the bun and I departed the shop quicker than Usain Bolt. Update! I had a slice yesterday with a cuppa and enjoyed it so much that I had another today. Why 5 stars? My complaint was resolved immediately. The bun was awesome You must support local businesses in the community You must respect that prices all around have increased so expect to pay a little more.......maybe not so much though. Always leave a review and look for the positives, after all the bakery is called MIXED BLESSINGS and isn't for everyone but it's been there for years, a family run business and is Black owned. Bless up! Look forward to trying...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEXTREMELY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE
There is some dreadlock guy serving at the till and he is rude and justifies his poor behaviour by claiming he is Ā“just loudā. Then he goes ahead to intimidate a customer by talking down to them. When customer tries to call him out on it, he shuts them down with āI am not arguing with youā.
I walked into the shop with headphones on. I collected a bottle of a drink from the counter top to read the label. The sales guy tried to get my attention by smacking on the counter rather loudly. Rattled by this, I struggled to shut down my music so that I could communicate with him properly. Mind you, he was dealing with two customers ahead of me which is why I did not take off my headphones immediately I walked into the bakery.
He then seized the bottle from my hand unceremoniously and only after I looked at him bewildered did he explain that one is not for sale. I tried to explain I was trying to read the label and content, not take it. Not like I could do so without paying.
He then proceeded to say he tried to get my attention by hitting on the counter. He treated me like you would someone who was suspected of stealing. I tried to explain I was working on switching off my headphones to address him properly but he did not let me even finish and cut me off with Ā“I am not arguingā.
I was not confrontational neither did I raise my voice but it was clear he was spoiling for a fight. He then went on a rant about how people come in with headphones and place wrong orders. I wondered how that was the case here. Should he not take that up with those people instead of giving me attitude while wrongly pre-empting my behaviour?
After I explained, he quipped he did not know me and wouldnāt know what I would do. I am not sure if he is used to criminals because how many customers is he really supposed to Ā“know wellā before providing good service to?
I just had to walk away dumbfounded. I am all for supporting black businesses but I am not dropping my hard-earned money at any establishment where I am disrespected and treated...

I used to look forward to my cake treats when my dad used to take me home from boarding school at the weekend. Then he'd be off again, cross country!

Jacob is by far the best customer service advisor around the area with his understanding of food and the value of sales expertise.
(By the way Jacob you should send that very popular Mud cafe a complimentary bread as one said today she tried some years ago but never came back - but she will buy something soon!)
The traditional bread, lunches and cakes are what makes this bakery...
