Monster Burger BBQ is one of those spots where the food speaks louder than the setting. š If youāre looking for somewhere luxury, this probably isnāt it ā but if you want hearty portions and bold flavours, this place definitely delivers in certain areas.
We went as a group and ordered a mix of dishes to really test out the menu.
The BBQ Ribs (Half Rack) (Ā£18.95) were hands down the standout of the night. The meat was falling off the bone, tender, and packed with that deep BBQ flavour you crave. Every bite had that rich smokiness that keeps you coming back for more. If I return, these ribs are a must-order ā theyāll be on my table every single time. šš„
The Brisket Loaded Fries (Ā£3.95) were another absolute winner. Crispy golden fries at the base, topped with juicy, slow-cooked brisket that had clearly been marinated to perfection. The brisket was rich and full of flavour, with red peppers mixed in, adding a slight sweetness and crunch. Everything was tied together by a smooth, tangy burger-style sauce, then finished with a sprinkle of fresh green herbs on top. šæ Every mouthful was perfectly balanced savoury, slightly sweet, and indulgent. Comfort food at its finest and easily one of my favourites of the night. šš¤¤
The Rump Steak with Chips (Ā£16.95) was cooked exactly how we asked juicy, nicely seasoned, and not chewy. It came served with Cajun fries, which were a really nice touch. The fries had a subtle kick of spice that added something extra to the dish, though with all the steak sauce and juices, you could sometimes miss that Cajun flavour. Still, they paired well overall and elevated the plate. The real standout here was the steak sauce rich, tangy, and the perfect complement to the meat. Even the side salad had flavour, which isnāt always guaranteed in places like this. š„©šš
The Monster Chicken & Waffle (Ā£8.95) was decent. The waffles were soft and fluffy, and the chicken was cooked well. That said, the chicken couldāve been a touch crispier and seasoned a bit more. It wasnāt bad, but it didnāt leave a lasting impression more of a ānice to try onceā kind of dish. šš§
The Grilled Chicken Wings (Ā£9.95) half Peri Peri, half Honey Chilli were okay, but they didnāt fully deliver on that smoky, grilled taste youād expect. The flavours were there, but they lacked that proper char to make them memorable.
The Monster Cheese Fries (Ā£2.50) came topped with sauce and a sprinkle of fresh green herbs, giving them a nice look and some extra flavour. šæš§ They werenāt bad, but for me, the taste felt too familiar ā like something Iāve had plenty of times before. There wasnāt anything unique to make them stand out, though someone else might love that classic cheese fries vibe. āø» Service & Atmosphere šļø
The service was solid. Even though it was fairly busy, we were greeted straight away and seated quickly. The staff were friendly and even pointed us toward their most popular dishes the steak and ribs which turned out to be spot-on recommendations.
The space itself is quite narrow, with tables lined down one side. When itās busy, it can feel a bit cramped, especially if chairs are pushed out. The decor isnāt bad, but it doesnāt exactly draw you in it has more of a glorified chicken shop vibe. That said, the food more than makes up for it. āø» Overall š
Monster Burger BBQ might not impress you with its layout or decor, but it delivers where it counts the food. The ribs and brisket fries were so good that Iād go back just for them.
Some dishes, like the wings and cheese fries, need a bit more punch and creativity. But when youāre craving proper BBQ comfort food, this spot has enough flavour to keep you coming back especially for those ribs, that beautifully marinated brisket, and a solid steak paired with those...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCredit is given where credit is due. I rarely rate establishments 5 stars, which is evident if you check my profile.
I usually rate places after I have visited at least twice. The first experience can always be a hit and miss, be it a good or bad experience.
Been to Monster Burgers twice, once with the wife and the second time with the boys.
Altogether we tried a variety of dishes.
Mac and cheese Wings: Buffalo, PeriPeri, Honeyglaze Monster Burger Steak and chips Chicken Wrap Fried Prawns Mojiots Chips
Steak and chips have been my favourite.
I like my steak medium well done. The meat is flavoursome and the right texture, it comes with chips and their signature sauce along with a side salad. The steak is chopped up into slices, so dont expect a steak knife.
Having had this twice I would highly recommend it. Depending on how you like your meat cooked, you can have it nice and soft (pink) which starts from rare all the way to well-done where it can become a bit chewy. All down to personal preference, the safest would be medium, you get a bit of both worlds which is my area for steaks.
The chips are not your ordinary chips. They are seasoned very well I will let the pictures speak for themselves. These chips are nice, fluffy and crispy on the outside at the same time. They change their oil in their fryers frequently as their chips are not stale nor do they leave an oily after taste like some establishments.
Their monster burger is very filling for a person with a big appetite like me. Plenty of layers and a nice thick patty. The buns are nice and soft and most importantly they hold everything together without falling apart.
Wings were a hit across the board for everybody. The chicken comes of the bone softly and is dressed with a flavour of your choice. My favourites have been buffalo and honeyglazed. If you really want to take it safe go for the honeyglazed wings, it was hit with everybody.
The chicken wrap is deceiving. Its packed with alot of chicken my friend could not finish his which required me to finish it off for him. The wrap is nice and soft, served hot and most importantly it is 'packaged' very well, it does not come apart creating any mess or leakage for you to clean up after.
Mac and cheese was a hit with the wife. The mojitos was also good.
Their prices are on point. Not too expensive nor too cheap. It's just about right for the location they're in and the food and portions you are served.
The only downside to this place which cant be helped is they get busy very quickly. Waiting times can be upto 20 minutes for 4 people or more. So come prepared and expect to wait.
Customer service from both the male and female waiters are very good. A friend of mine had enough time to check the menu, despite being 'ready' to order. He took a bit of time, still deciding changing his mind whilst the waitress was at the table. The waitress exercised a lot of patience. Again it is testament to their level of customer service.
They also take payment after you have eaten, which is how it should be.
After having placed our orders food was served quickly. We have never waited longer than 15 minutes for the food to arrive. On both occasions when they had been very busy.
Having travelled from outside the borough, I will be visiting again when i'm in the area...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRecently I had the privilege to eat at this restaurant. To start with, the location isn't the most pleasant. It's tucked away on the busy side streets of Whitechapel and the area can be quite dirty at times, however, this does not detract from the overall experience of the restaurant, it's just a thought about the general location.
The restaurant: the interior was... not too cosy. It's quite a small restaurant and very narrow, not too much space width wise but it is longer in length. There isn't much seating space on the inside so a word of advice is to book in advance to secure a table, HOWEVER, from my experience it took us 2 full days in order to book as they didn't pick up the phone. We tried at different times and with different phones but finally got through on day 2.
The service; the service was good but not great. Our server took our orders in promptly and we waited for our food for a normal amount of time. For reference, my party and I had ordered a Rump Steak N' Chips all server Medium Rare. Now, one of our orders was botched (I'll get onto that later) and one of my party members had to ask waiters 3 times to change his orders. 2 out of the 3 times he was ignored and the final time management came and sorted him out with a full refund of his meal. I can say that at least our hosts were gracious enough to refund a meal but it shouldn't have taken 3 full attempts to get to a resolution.
The food; the food was good, a solid 7.3/10. My only personal problem was that the steak had basically no salt on it so it was kind of bland, however, the complimentary mushroom sauce on top did make up for it in taste. The Cajun season chips were delicious, a nice crisp on the exterior contrasting a soft pillowy interior. The problem I had was the steak I referenced in the service section of my review. My friend had ordered a Medium Rare steak and received a Well Done steak, if it had been Medium or maybe a Medium well, it would've been passable but Well Done is far too much of a difference from Medium Rare. It was hard to cut and extremely chewy. The problem had obviously been resolved but as I stated, it took a total of 3 times for a conclusion.
Overall, I give Monster Burger a 3.7/5 stars. The restaurant experience isn't the best but it's good enough for a good meal whilst not digging too deep into...
