Read moreSet menu dinner in a vegan restaurant. The lady who takes our order tells us that they have recently changed their menu and asks us for our opinion on the quantities. In many years, honestly, it had never happened to me that they asked if the portions were adequate and I took it for granted that every restaurateur had to know exactly the quantities of food to offer for each individual diner, but I appreciate her request. There were three of us and four dishes were brought to us at the same time, obviously to share, one quite rich with marinated courgettes, one with yellow beets with tahini and confit tomatoes, one with carrots with walnut sauce, kumquats etc and the last with 6 caps of shitake mushrooms (all documented by photos) Excellent raw materials and excellent preparations, but £30 each for "those" 4 courses is a disproportionate amount, even for London prices, because honestly the quantities were truly inadequate for three people who spent 90 pounds. For completeness of information I must say we were not charged for the bread and we also had a second basket. At the end of the dinner, one of the guests, who had previously dined there with another person but with sufficient quantities of food for two, pointed out to the lady serving us that yes, the quality of the raw materials and the quality of the preparations were excellent but, since we had been asked for our opinion, he also underlined that the dishes were actually rather insufficient. In response, she offered to prepare some fried tomatoes... I think that a restaurateur, in addition to calibrating the doses of each course well, especially given the certainly not adequate cost requested, in this case should have offered at least a...
Read moreTonight, my friend invited me to this Family-run Vegan restaurant. I was first fascinated by their unique entrance(It is not the usual style of restaurant in London). Then, directly opposite the entrance is the kitchen (2 chefs at work) not the FOH area, they will ring the bell to call fellows to greet the guests.
I was ushered into the dining space, which was a split-level layout. The space gave me a sense of scene: I felt like I slipped into the kitchen through the back door of a friend's house and then came to the dining room, I didn't have to think about anything, they had everything thought out for me (only set menu here, it is changed monthly). I just had to choose the host's selection of drinks, appetizers and desserts. Various origami are hung in the hollow, no other superfluous decoration. Everything is so cozy, natural and relaxing here.
2 regulars sat next to us, warmly introduced us to the dishes and shared with us their dining experience and love for the restaurant. See, this is how an animated restaurant effortlessly arouses the desire of their guests to share and spread!
Here, I feel a genuine pattern of cooperation with the surroundings, with the seasons, with the community, with the creatures, rather than an anthropocentric predator-like attitude. There are no expensive ingredients from distant land, but there are food wisdom from different places. The different sauces are full of surprises with the dense and silky mouthfeel. Even if it's so yummy that I can't stop, I won't feel tired/greasy. The final SUNDAE is intriguing and clinking, and the collision of spoons and the crunch of filo bring...
