🚇 Peckham Rye 🍺 £5.80 Cruzcampo
The Red Bull is located opposite Manze’s Pie & Mash shop on busy Peckham High Street. The nearest station is Peckham Rye, it’s only a few minutes walk to get here.
There has been a pub on this site since the 17th century, the building you see today was built in 1880. This pub closed in the late 1970’s and has had multiple uses including most recently a hair dressers. Thankfully the pub reopened in autumn 2019 and then became Barefoot Joe's Bar for a while, in April this year the pub reinstated its original name.
This is a one bar pub with traditional furniture plus a few remnants from the previous bar incarnation. The servery is located on the back wall and has a solid wood counter. Around the walls are beautiful glazed Victorian tiles which are slightly hidden by the seating. The standout feature which was such a surprise to find was the stunning tiled mural of “The Trial of Queen Katherine". For the warmer months, there are benches at the side of the pub.
The beer lineup was all keg and featured a couple of craft beers. I decided on a pint of Cruzcampo, my pint hit the spot, price point was just below average. The food offering is Pizza, there are 9 to choose from, most cost around a tenner. There is a deal where you can get a Pizza and a Pint for £14.
We arrived around 8pm on a warm Saturday evening in July. The atmosphere was chilled with a few locals in attendance. I got chatting to the Guv’nor and his good Lady who were telling me all about their vibrant locals boozer. They also showed me a book detailing the historical importance of the tiled mural.
The pub hosts a variety of events and promotions, keep an eye on their socials for what’s on.
Peckham has had a devastating loss of pubs over the last twenty years, so it was great to visit this pub that is back from the dead. This is a welcoming local with lovely people at the helm. The tiled mural was amazing, the beer and pizza are reasonably priced. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Read moreThis is an Excellent Pup..!!.. I work on Events and have stayed in the Travel lodge opposite several times.. the staff are lovely friendly intelligent, the Pizza is apsolutly top notch, when you've been a few times it's like you're visiting friends that run a pub..they do a happy hr on cocktails between 6 and 8 PM.. I can highly recommend Pans Laberinth..the music is always lovely and I often have to ask what's playing as it's always pretty cool music.. found one of my favourite artists thanks to them.. they have a quizz night I had the pleasure of witnessing once and that is pretty entertaining and a lovely bohemian crowd of intelligent people attend.. The pub has big windows that face out to the busy street and it's a great place to people watch as the vibrancy and diversity of peckam floods through the windows ..I had the pleasure of meeting the manager on a previous visit and had to tell him how brilliant his staff are... definitely go there and hang out with your...
Read moreThe lighting was soft and welcoming, the jazz music playing as I entered was alluring.. the pizzas they served even looked inviting. That's where things started to go south. While at the bar waiting to be served, the barman saw me and chose to ignore me. I went to look for a menu. When another person came to the bar he served her straight away. I waited, and when he eventually served me I casually asked why he ignored me initially.. he got aggressive, without apology and told me to pay for the drink or leave it... naturally I decided this initial welcoming environment was leaving a sour taste before I'd even tried anything.. I decided I didn't want to drink or eat here anymore. I asked for his name, he refused and became even more angry before walking off...
I'm sure this is a nice place to visit, however with rude intimidating bar staff like this serving.. I won't be encouraging my friends to prioritise this spot, with so much other...
