We were excited to find this local Malaysian eatery. It's essentially a few tables in the shop front of a takeaway that also does Chinese food. The dishes we had were pretty good. Acar had a nice flavour although a little sweeter than I'm used to. Popiah was unfortunately the wrong thing to order. It wasn't flavoured well, the filling was too chunky, and it didn't hold. The Hainanese chicken rice was OK, although the chicken portion was small, and it was sitting in a plum and soy sauce which is really unusual. Had to ask for the chili sauce. The char kway teow was a 7.5/10. Their version was fried with char siew (BBQ pork) however it's normally done with lap cheong (cured pork sausage). Needed more pork lard too. Prices were reasonable. The staff were lovely. The laksa looked good, so we will be back to try...

There are few things that give evidence of this eating establishment's elevation above your normal amateur cheffy takeaway:

The benchmark dish of salt & pepper squid is done very well, they even cut a hole in the corner of the plastic takeaway box to ensure the fried squid does not sweat, while waiting for pick-up/delivery. The menu is also in chinese. This place caters to local chinese/malaysian living in the area and has a great malaysian menu. I like how for the fried noodle, they keep the noodle in a insulated bag, with the rest of the noodle sauce/meat/vegetables separate to keep the noodle crispy on arrival. They have seating, giving a good atmosphere for eating.

This is our...

I recently dined at Noodle House, located down the bottom of Sutton. As someone who had never tried Malaysian cuisine before, I was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity and taste. We ordered the Malaysian Kung Po Chicken, which arrived crispy and delightfully spicy. The egg-fried rice was equally flavourful. Although I haven’t been to Malaysia, I imagine this dish captures its essence.

My dad opted for Nasi Goreng, and after sampling it, I found myself preferring its flavours. The addition of lime provided a pleasant sour note that complemented the spices perfectly.

They have both a Chinese menu and a Malaysian menu. My family prefers the Malaysian food but...

We arrived at 2pm. Once we got in, the waitress kindly reminded us they will close at 2:30pm. We ordered the Beef Fried Ho Fun, Nasi Lemak, Kopi Panas (Malay coffee) and Kot Far Char ( chrysanthemum tea). The beef fried Ho Fun is hot, tasty and not greasy. Nasi Lemak is authentic Malay style. As for the beverage, coffee is actually Malay/Singapore taste. I was nearly to burst out into tears when having a sip of the homemade chrysanthemum tea, because it tasted same as my mom made me (however she passed for few years ago). So impressive and we were surely that will dine in another time.
