Had a rather uncomfortable experience last night thanks to the landlady. Here’s what happened. I’m seated with some friends outside and I get up to go to the toilet; there’s an outside that takes one person at a time. To walk to it I pass one other outside bench of seated people. As I pass I hear a voice from one of the group shout “Where’s your mask mate?”. Unsure if this is directed at me and it being a little late to stop and fondle about in my pocket at this point if it was, being just a few steps away from the toilet and past the seating area, I don’t react and think no more about it. When I return from the toilet I find this person complaining about me to my friends. I’m like a rabbit in the headlights as I get a torrent of abuse about not wanting to wear a mask and ignoring her earlier. At this point she identifies herself as the landlady, which came as a surprise to me as up until this point I thought she was just a drunk patron trying to start a fight. Anyway, she sat back down with her friend but continued to shout abusive remarks about my character at me. For what it’s worth, I’m not some kind of covid denying anti vaccinator looking to avoid wearing masks whenever possible. I’m just not familiar with the current rules around the use of masks in beer gardens. I apologise if I should have worn a mask when walking in the beer garden. I’m not complaining about having to wear a mask to go to the toilet or the pub’s administration of these rules. Simply, this whole incident could have been dealt with by saying “Could you where a mask when you get up, please”. There was no need for the aggressive and overly confrontation behaviour or personal attacks. The whole thing didn’t need to be escalated to the point it did. Had a degree of professionalism been applied when I was addressed I feel as I wouldn’t be writing this and the whole incident would have...
Read moreEditing to update my review of the best pub in Leyton/stone - They've done really well to adhere to the ever changing rules of Covid-times and opened in whatever way they could whenever allowed and should be applauded for that, I'm certain it hasn't been easy at all! Anyway, very glad to still have this community pub and cannot wait to get back to some live music, drag shows etc. They also do some great beers in cask from local breweries including ELB, Signature Brew and Three Sods. Good pizza too!
My review in 2016: A reallly welcoming community pub with friendly staff and a great selection of ales and wines as well as great Pizzas at weekends and a lovely garden. Fab events on too including a local designers market and live comedy monthly and live music and...
