I want to give a negative star but it’s not possible. It’s actually one of the worst pizzas I’ve had and waste of money - the sad thing is that this is what they dish out as standard.
Basically no tomato sauce and hope you have a microscope to find any cheese on a pepperoni pizza (read below description of how it was like) I never leave any reviews but needed to this time.
I called to speak to the store just to communicate and understand what is actually going wrong with their store? Are they loss making , do they do this on purpose and why do they do this?
They obviously know what they are doing. They skimp so much on the sauce, cheese and scam people- does the owner know about this? Do they care? I have so many questions. It’s not surprising that there are so many 1 star reviews and obviously some fake purchased 5 star reviews to bring the average rating to a 3.5 star, imagine if they didn’t buy these fake reviews .
I’ve bought from here 3 times now and thought just got unlucky with the pizza but it’s just how they do it! It’s so bad and not worth the money that it’s sort of funny in a way.
The person I spoke to couldn’t speak English and barely knew how to communicate, he said the manager has now left at 9pm so can’t do anything but he will tell the manager tomorrow and I might get free pizza apparently. (All in broken English couldn’t really fully understand tbf). I definitely do not want a free pizza as that will be a waste as well. Much rather a refund or I’d much rather the satisfaction that everyone associated with that restaurant operations reads this review. Why are they so bad at making pizza, pay a hefty £15-£20 and tastes like a frozen pizza from Poundland ( pretty sure you don’t get pizza from Poundland but if you did this is why I’d imagine it would be) I still remember a few years ago I had this papa Johns pizza in greenwich area and that was insane, the first bite the cheese was all there perfect texture, with the flavors from the sauce coming in and the pizza base soft but with a slight crisp in the outside and toppings existed. However - What you will get here is a dry bite with no sauce, all the sauce has basically been dried as it’s such a thin layer of sauce they dab on the pizza, so it basically dries once cooked, the cheese is thinner than an a4 paper, so it’s just dried cheese residue tasting and then you get 1 or 2 bits of toppings (if you are lucky). The pizza base is dry so it’s like chewing a cardboard. So make sure you get as much dip as possible as this can be a chocking hazard as you might struggle to swallow the pizza.
It must be the management that just don’t care, the business model works as they can use the papa johns name to scrape an okay profit for themselves, whilst loosing customers in the long run, as they will keep getting one off customers now and then in a big area, so they will just get revenue that they can make some money on. But I’m sure they are now realising they are so bad, that they might be be close to or starting to be loss making. The funny thing is the guy I collected from said leave a review.
If the manager is reading this here is a tip . If you make your pizzas a lot better = you will get a lot more customers regularly = a lot more money.
Food business have the highest fixed costs not variable costs, you are already spending so much on rent, utilities, wages , licences, the money you waste on skimping with quality is insignificant to your total cost base. You need to prioritise repeat customers that keep coming back regularly, once you do that you will see your revenue increase exponentially, which will cover alot of the costs plus a much bigger profit, allowing you to maintain the quality and you don’t need to rely on the little bit of extra margin you make with having no cheese, sauce and ingredients on your pizzas lol.
If the founder of papa johns ate this pizza he will definitely get a heart attack in shock and horror of what this has come. Might even sue this franchise owner/ store manager for defamation of papa...

Unfortunately, this Papa Johns has been on a slow and steady decline in quality. We have been ordering delivery from this Papa Johns for a couple of years now and again. Originally the food was great. However, over the past year, the quality of the food has turned woefully dreadful and my most recent order was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
Recent orders, pizzas have arrived cold and very dry, there is very little sauce and toppings, this makes the pizza overall very dry and tasteless most of the time. Items have also been missing such as additional paid dips which I've had to contact head office to get refunded. As the best the store would offer is an IOU and no guarantee that it would actually be honoured come the next order. The only reason we kept ordering was the sides were actually decent. I have noticed also that ever since Uber eats took over delivering the orders, delivery times are much longer!
However, back to today's order, we got the Big Match bundle, which is two pizzas and two classic sides and a drink. As what seems the norm, the order seems to be cutting and checking for over 10 minutes on the tracking portal before it's picked up by UberEATS. On delivery the Pizzas were lukewarm and tasteless, however the real shock is when we opened the Garlic Pizza Sticks and saw how burnt and dry it was. See the attached Picture. It looks nothing like what it should do as advertised on the website. (Second attached picture)
Paraphrasing Gordon Ramsay "Overcooked on the bottom/top, crispy as **, and it looks like Gandhi’s flip flop"
I cannot believe that the person "cutting & checking" the order thought this is acceptable to send out to a customer.
As such I have sent a complaint to Papa John Customer service on this order and have advised for a review into this branch given drastic decline in quality.
I think these issues are purely down to how this branch is run and its management. I've had Papa Johns delivered from different branches in surrounding areas and they have been much better quality then the Romford one. As an example, we ordered 10 pizzas from the Barkingside branch, and they came with 45 mins and all still hot and tasted great. A night & day difference between the Barkingside and Romford Branches.
It's actually shocking how bad the Romford branch has become and it is an embarrassment to the Papa...
Read moreUsed to be good and deliver roughly on time - had to stop ordering a few months ago because food kept arriving cold and the papa guarantee does not cover cold food / late delivery (even though I don’t like the ‘taste’ of cold pizza)
Have them another chance - pizza did not turn up 40 minutes after app said ‘on the road’ - and 10 minutes after app said ‘delivered - tuck in’ phoned the shop and they said the guy had set off 20 minutes ago - I told them I am just 4 minutes drive away - she said maybe he just collected the sauces 20 minutes ago
Driver called me a few minutes later - he couldn’t find us - kept talking over me when I was trying to give him simple directions- just babbled on about the postcode and satnav - I had to should over him to give him simple directions - he came from the direction as though he had perhaps driven past us 15 times!!!!
Anyway - food was ‘warm’ but not as cold as previously delivered - maybe they should not be in the job of pizza delivery but maybe just promote their pizza collection where you can get half price pizzas and get them home hot without a heated pizza delivery box unlike their own delivery guys
Seeing as they will know who I am because of my online and telephone signature I won’t be able to order pizza there again
The boss / owner has to go for stress massage - maybe he wouldn’t be so stressed if he didn’t keep letting down...
