People’s Park Tavern, 8.2/10 Nice pub with a beer garden and a brewery inside. Hackney gaff. Definitely need to branch out that way more. Pint pictured is Liane Word Lager. Top drawer. This also featured on one of our first posts. At the Owl and Hitchhiker. Funny thing that because guess where we’re watching the semi-final? You guessed it. Is that a good omen? You bloody betcha. Massive beer garden. Think the rating will definitely get bumped up next time because when we were here it was a little quiet. Maybe because it was 11am on a Wednesday. We’re not alcys, alright? This is our full-time job now. As the beer was so good, we ordered a second. Instead of our waitress coming back with the beers, it was a ghost with the face of Ray Winstone. He told us that the gods of North London were unhappy with us for not having continued our crusade against the South. Listen Ray, we know what we’re doing. We have 800+ followers sunshine. You live in the spirit realm. Now give us those beers and sling your hook. As we came to on the side of the road at 6am, we figured that may have been a drunken dream. Turns out we stayed all day at the pub. Lost our possessions. And our heads. But we did have "Bet in-play. Now." branded on our chests. Maybe it was real after all. After a morning spent painting rails under the unrelenting 24°C heat at Victoria Park for a company CSR day, I found myself in need of serious sustenance. Lucky for us, we stumbled upon a charming pub just off the main road, boasting a sprawling beer garden that seamlessly backs onto the lush greenery of the park. Pressed for time, I opted for a classic choice: ā€˜The People’s Burger & Rosemary Salt Fries.’ Service was impressively swift, but the real star was the meal itself. The burger, with its thick, juicy 8oz patty, was nothing short of sublime. The crisp lettuce and vibrant tomato added a refreshing crunch, perfectly complementing the richness of the beef. And then, there were the fries – rosemary salt fries to be exact. Each bite delivered an ideal balance of crunchy exterior and pillowy, soft interior, with just the right hit of fragrant rosemary salt. A truly delightful pairing. To wash it all down, the pub offers a respectable range of lagers, beers, and pale ales on tap, sure to satisfy any palate. Inside, a handful of arcade machines offer a nostalgic touch, perfect for entertaining the kids. All in all, it’s a solid spot to grab a bite if you find yourself in the area.

This burger is £24.75. Jesus Christ! For that money, as a minimum, at least a cup of coffee after I get screwed. The truth is pretty simple. The place is insanely well located. It's popular due to it's location so they don't have to try or care. It's why we are here. Because of that, the food doesn't matter, they are always full and people will keep coming back. The food, meh at best. For the money, I'd avoid harder than the plague. And this is based on a few experiences (see location above, sadly, by now I think I have Stockholm syndrome). Beers are pretty good decent selection. Pretty standard price for London and the bar stuff move quick enough. Summary. If you want a place where you can also eat. Avoid harder than a Boris party at number 10. If all you want is drinks and a great setting, the place is ace EDIT: added screenshot of the price post response. Thank you for responding

Not all Heroes wear Capes 😊

Not the normal review but this is more important than the quality of food, drink or general service. We were a party of 20 people there on Saturday 19 August for part of our daughters 30th birthday celebrations over that weekend. Firstly to give credit (as per the normal type of review) the venue was perfect- cool outdoor space (in the sun) with a great vibe, great choice of drinks, excellent food and service. We had a fantastic time - Thank you.

However, our table was right by the back entrance to the park and we noticed a stressful situation unfold in front of us midway through our afternoon where a lost child wandered into the outdoor entrance of the Tavern. What we witnessed over the next 30 plus minutes was a the most incredible mix of emotions. Turns out it was a 6-7 year boy (with a form of autism) who got separated from his mother about two miles away at the other end of the park, and somehow had made his way to the tavern after recognising it from a previous visit. However it was the alert eye of the security guy Alexis who spotted the lost child and took control immediately. To put this in perspective, this is a large 6.5ft guy who probably is used to dealing with totally different situations in a beer garden but within minutes he gained the child’s trust so much that the child wouldn’t go to anyone else, even the police when they arrived, and happily went for a walk around the whole complex in Alexis arms searching for his mother. As time went on the the child got more stressed and tearful, he often could be seen putting his head down on Alexis shoulder in tears but with the most amazing trust, that this big man would protect him until he was found. It was an incredible reminder of that trustworthy people are among us each day. And to the cheers of all that witnessed it, he eventually was reunited with is mother, but it didn’t go unnoticed among many in our group that when in his mothers arms, he on at least two occasions fixed his eyes on Alexis with the most appreciative and grateful smile 😊. Following a brief chat with this amazing man afterwards it was so evident to see that he is one of those doormen that are genuinely there to look out for us all, yet often disrespected. On this occasion he was the most gentle big man to that small child, gaining trust, offering protection (this could have ended very differently without his wisdom and intervention) an absolute hero šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘Management of the Peoples Park Tavern- you have a star employee, Customers - shake this mans hand. Alexis you are a...

AVOID THIS PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A PUB.

I do usually leave reviews, and I’ve had good and bad experiences in plenty of places, but The People’s Park Tavern was so consistently awful that it deserves calling out.

We booked a table for four indoors and were given just two barstools at a table. The pub was practically empty and stayed that way, yet staff made no effort to move us. It immediately felt unwelcoming. Reading other reviews afterwards, this seems common – people regularly mention poor seating arrangements and staff who don’t care.

Ordering is only through their app, which automatically adds a service charge. In our case it was Ā£3.70 each, despite the fact that all staff did was drop food on the table. When I asked for it to be removed, the server refused. That isn’t optional service, it’s a forced extra charge. Plenty of other reviewers also complain about this, so it’s clearly the way they operate.

The food was just as bad. I paid Ā£18.50 for what was advertised as a jackfruit burger, but what arrived was a frozen bean patty. The server even called it a bean burger when he put it down. On top of that, the portion size was tiny – barely enough chips, and the burger itself was small and clearly straight from the freezer. That’s misleading, and for the price, completely unacceptable. Looking at other reviews afterwards, I’m far from alone – many people describe the food as bland, frozen, overpriced and served in meagre portions that leave you hungry.

I emailed management three separate times to complain and got no reply at all. Not even a basic acknowledgment. Again, this matches what lots of other customers say: once they’ve got your money, management simply doesn’t care.

To top it off, staff handed us a QR code and encouraged us to leave a review in exchange for a free drink. That explains the suspicious number of glowing 5 star reviews that don’t match what people actually experience. It’s manipulative and makes their ratings meaningless.

In short: bad service, hidden charges, overpriced food that isn’t what’s advertised, tiny portions, no accountability, and review manipulation. And I’m not the only one saying it – look through the 1 and 2 star reviews and you’ll see the same complaints over and over. This place survives on its location,...

This place is a joke. Let me tell you what happened. Back in February I booked a table for 20 for my birthday, and made sure to confirm it. On the day, they had no record of my booking and the 'manager' could have cared less. I had 20 friends wondering where to go, and he just said to find a couple of tables and bash them together. Which I did myself. Then he said I couldn't do that. So we found two benches outside and settled for that. The heaters didn't work. It was winter and we had babies with us. When we asked the same guy to fix the heaters, he just shrugged and told us to sort it out. Food took an hour to arrive and by that stage my friends were leaving to get food elsewhere. I resented putting any money over the bar but it would have been more hassle to move to another pub. Overall it was a very disappointing experience, but it only gets better...

I emailed the bookings manager to tell her about my experience. She apologised and offered me a free round if I just showed them her email. After lockdown I went back with 2 friends, flashed the magic email and asked for a meagre round of 3 drinks. This lanky obnoxious Australian guy took one look and said "My first answer is no." I asked what his second answer was and he went to check with his superior. Bless him, he came back and told me it was "my lucky day", they would grant my 3 free drinks! After being left in the cold with 20 people and no help, I was the lucky boy who got a few drinks for compensation. We ordered double G&Ts. They were not doubles, they were barely singles.

There have been other times when I went here and was the only person waiting at the bar and have been completely ignored. This kind of disdainful attitude can only filter down from the top. By the way, their home brew is rubbish.

So after being rinsed and embarrassed in front of my friends twice I can safely say AVOID THIS PUB. There are so many good options within a 5 minute walk: The Lauriston, The Hemingway, The Royal Inn On The Park... These places actually treat you well. Not sure if I made my point, but DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THE PEOPLE'S PARK TAVERN. It's...
