🚇 Homerton 🍺 £4.80 Amstel
The Eagle is located in a residential area of Homerton in Hackney, just north of Victoria Park. The nearest station is Homerton overground.
This pub was originally built in 1872. The pub you see today was built in the 1930s for Watney Combe Reid.
This is a traditionally decorated pub that has two adjoining bars around a horseshoe shaped servery. The decor is a mix of exposed brick chimney breasts, colourful eagle wallpaper and blue half-height wall panelling. There is plenty of seating in the firm of banquettes, comfy chairs and stools around the bar. The pub has a pool table, a dartboard, a jukebox and a few TV’s, at the back of the pub is a covered smoking area with an old Guinness sign. One nice touch was a wall covered in Kilkenny Hurling memorabilia dedicated to the former Irish Landlord.
The beer lineup is a straightforward selection of familiar keg favourites. I decided on a pint of Amstel, my pint was great, price point was reasonable at under a fiver. All other beers were also under a fiver with the exception of Neck Oil. This is a wed-led pub that doesn’t serve food.
We arrived around 11.30am on a warm Saturday morning in August. As you can imagine, the pub was quiet, there was one other local punter in attendance. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed with chart pop and rock classics playing in the background. The service was excellent, we were served by a lovely Irish Lady who made us feel right at home.
The Eagle is a quintessential backstreet locals boozer that has rejuvenated itself up to secure its future. I loved the local feel to the pub and the warm hospitality. The beer prices are reasonable and the setting relaxed. We loved it here, I would definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Read moreGreat traditional & welcoming pub Nice service, great local regular customers Now everything virtually back to normal, the only negative is the weekend night time entertainment which is what has been used for many years weak, repeatative sub standard, cheap, low quality with the poor regulars just putting up with it when in place.
Could be a gold mine & a very popular goodtime entertainment pub, attracting regular masses each weekend, but the management are stuck in their old ways & frightened to 'manage change' concerning entertainment, also missing a big trick on Saturday afternoons which are always busy, if there was entertainment in place on Saturday afternoons, the pub would be packed very quickly on a regular basis with profits accelerating at high speed.
In general 'Just for a drink' on weekdays & the weekend afternoons, a nice local watering hole, surrounded by...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this place on the way to all points east and the team were absolutely the most friendly faces I’ve experienced in hospitality down south! We told the lady behind the bar we had just got off the coach and she refilled and put our water bottles in the fridge for us and was a lovely friendly face when ordering our first drink here. The two people outside then set up an outdoor bar for passers by and they were so lovely and happy to have a quick chat. Wonderful people, great little pub, REALLY good prices, highly recommend stopping by if you’re heading to...
