This place is an old time favourite. I used to go to their Bricklane branch when they first opened up back in 2008 i think. This establishment has been around for a long time but they like to lay low and is unheard of.
I went back after a very long time, my wife discovered pepes recently when i reminded her that i was born with pepes back in the day! They have very few brances that are not always easy to get to.
Anyway back to the food and service rating. Not much footfall like it used to be, they're surviving on UberEats and Deliveroo etc
I have to say prices have rocketed 🚀 the food is definitely not worth the prices as you can get very similar tasting chicken from many other places. We ordered their rice box with wings and chips.
Their rice box is good, it appears to be the only half decently priced item with enough chicken and rice in a box which is very filling for £8.
5 measly wings and small chips for almost £10 nadda not worth it. Whole chicken £10 not worth it.
The only thing unique about pepes is their peri peri salt its different and i do like it.
Food is not bad, its ok. Portions are small whilst prices are high. 3 stars from me until i found out they also charge for sauce! Lady said its 20p for peri peri salt, when the receipt was produced it said 30p.
Anybody charging customers for sauce or salt especially after the customer having placed an order for food deserve an automatic star...
Read moreI cant say nothing bad about the food, however the staff are very rude and have no clue what they are doing, 2 asian ladies who take the order both try to charge me and my friend different prices for the exact same food, then have the nerve to talk in their own language about us, then have no basic manners, when I got my meal, she wouldn't give me a dip as I had to pay for it but surely one dip is free for the meal she didn't understand this, I then sat down to have my food, same lady comes sweeping around the tables and near to me and then starts mopping while I'm having my food, she then open the main door for the floor to dry, however as customers we have the right to stay warm especially if the temperature was minus 1 outside, my food then gets cold quicker, then other customer are coming into the shop, the lady telling them to move to the side as she mopping, as health and safety you should priority your customers and leave the mopping before closing time and focus more on your customer service. Also another health and safety point, the ladies are wearing nail polish which shouldn't be allowed especially if it's chipped imagine the chipped nail vanish going into your food, pepes you seriously need to sort out your customer service skills and hire people with basic...
Read moreHey fellow food adventurers,
So, my cousin and I embarked on a spiritual and culinary journey last Friday. The Masjid experience was enlightening – we soaked in an evening sermon after Isha Salaah for our spiritual well-being. But then came the crucial decision: where to indulge for dinner?
Enter Pepe's Piri Piri. Now, let me set the scene. They do Peri Peri chicken, but here's the catch – it's South Asian-run. Now, I love my people, but we all know South Asians and Peri Peri Chicken are like oil and water – just doesn't mix.
The food, my friends, was abhorrent at best. I mean, tangy is one thing, but this was a full-blown assault on our taste buds. It was like a clash of culinary cultures that left our mouths confused and our evening of spiritual cleansing-ness in ruins. Imagine waiting all day to eat, only to regret every bite.
Service? Well, it was okay. Not exceptional, not terrible – just okay. The atmosphere? Basic. Nothing to write home about, and certainly not enough to distract us from the disappointment on our plates.
Lesson learned: I am officially revoking my cousin's rights to recommend food joints. We should've stuck to the tried-and-true Nandos – where Peri Peri Chicken knows its way around the taste buds without causing a...
