PizzaExpress — Restaurant in London

Pre-book for a work celebration night everyone was looking forward to. Once drinks were ordered took a while to come out. After ordering food it took about an hour for the few people that ordered a started and 15-20 minutes more for the mains! As if this wasn't bad enough some of the pizza bases were burnt and other soggy to the point of being inedable. I found bit weird for a pizza based restaurant to not be able to cook in a timely manor and to be cooked so poorly. Then I saw why, another person at my table found a hair in there pizza, colour and length clearly noone at our table's. The waiter did offer to cook something else but clearly wasn't bothered, apologetic or embarrassed by the presence of hair in the food! The pizza I had myself tastes ok but was soggy, didn't really fit onthe plate and was therefore hard to slice with the pizza cutter handed to me. Someone else at my table did however assure me that other pizza expresses they'd been to were nowhere near this bad. So maybe just avoid this one. I most likely will not be returning to any pizza express...

Long wait, wouldn't accept their own generated voucher and very quick to add service charge.

Attended pizza express with friends for a lunch. I had a voucher which was sent to me by Pizza Express. I showed it to the server in advance and was told it would be applied at the end. Ordered pizza, one hour wait and whilst pizza was cooked well, it was very thin and toppings were very scarce. Fast forward to payment and they generated a combined bill which included a large service charge even though we wanted to pay separately. As we all paid individually we were each asked to add an individual gratuity. This was on top of the added service charge they had already requested. In regards to the voucher which they were pre-shown, they said they could not apply it and I had to pay full price. Almost £19 for a paper thin unfulfilling pizza and a small soft drink.

Deeply Disappointed and Inedible Kids Food

We have always enjoyed Pizza Express as a family, but our visit to the Putney branch was the worst dining experience we’ve ever had. We arrived at 5:50 pm and were seated outside. After bringing us water, the waitress disappeared and we had to chase just to place an order.

It took nearly an hour for the kids’ food to arrive — and when it finally did, it was the wrong dish and completely burnt. Burnt plain penne pasta. Not the spaghetti bolognese they had ordered. There was no genuine apology from the manager, who blamed it on having no head chef and just a trainer chef. Cooking plain pasta shouldn’t need a head chef!

The entire visit was disorganised, frustrating and totally unacceptable — poor service, no communication, inedible food and no real apology. After years of being loyal customers, we’ve lost trust in Pizza Express because of...
