đ Wood Green đşÂ ÂŁ4.70 Guinness
PJ OâConnorâs is located in Wood Green, in the Borough of Haringey, North London. The nearest Tube station is Wood Green on the Piccadilly Line.
This pub is located on the site where the oldest pub in Wood Green once stood. The Three Jolly Butchers was built in 1781 as a coaching inn. It was rebuilt in 1900 and renamed The Jolly Butchers Hotel. In the 1970s, the pub was demolished and replaced by a four-storey office building with a pub in the bottom right corner, council planners, eh? In 2019, PJ OâConnorâs was established, following on from Monaghanâs Tavern.
This is a one bar pub that has a compact no frills classic Irish pub feel. The decor consists of Faux brick walls, Irish memorabilia everywhere, pool table, dartboard, and TVs at every angle. There is plenty of seating throughout, I loved seeing the bar stools full of punters.
The beer lineup features a solid selection of well-known keg favourites. Since itâs an Irish pub, I had to go for the Guinnessâand honestly, I couldnât fault it. Price-wise, it came in under a fiver, which is great. The food option here is Pizza, and there are plenty of Taytos on hand if youâre feeling peckish.
I arrived around 5:30 p.m. on a pleasant Saturday afternoon in March. The pub was packed with a mix of punters, and the Irish community was well represented. The atmosphere was upbeat and lively, with a welcoming feel throughout. The service was spot-onâthe lady who served me was lovely and had everything under control.
The pub shows a wide variety of sportsâhorse racing, GAA, rugby, Premier League⌠and, on this visit, Claudia Winkleman. Because nothing says âSaturday sportâ like Strictly Come Dancing.
From the outside, this might not be the most beautiful boozer Iâve ever clapped eyes onâbut thatâs not what this pub is about. Itâs about community, the craic, and keeping you entertained. I loved visiting this old-school drinking denâthere arenât many like it left. So if youâre ever over this side of town, make sure you pay @pj_o_connors a visit. âď¸

This place has such a great atmosphere with top-notch service from the staff. Saturday nights are always a blast with live bands playing a mix of Irish tunes and classic hits from the 60s through the 90s. Thereâs always something happening â from GAA games to football matches â all shown on big screens throughout the pub.
Sundays are sorted too, with the ultimate hangover cure: free(!) sausages and spuds â yes, really free!
Drinks go up a bit after midnight, but theyâre still reasonably priced for London. Happy hours run from opening until 7pm on weekdays, and up to 2pm on weekends â ÂŁ3 for a pint of Strongbow, then ÂŁ4 after (though best to check, just in case).
Getting there is easy, with the Piccadilly line right across the road (and it runs all night on weekends, which saves on cab fare). That said, the staff are happy to call a cab for you if needed. As a woman, Iâve always felt safe there, which is a huge plus.
During the week, itâs got a chilled-out vibe with a pool table and darts. All in all, just a really nice, cool pub â definitely worth...
Read moreThis is one of the best (and only) Irish pubs on Wood Green high road (a glorious and scenic neighbourhood in the London borough of Harringay). Itâs full of warm and colourful, genuine London-Irish characters who all have lung- fulls of good craic (crack). Solange Knowles to you all. Many pleases and multiple thanks. Yours faithfully,
