A Gastronomic Delight
If you are on the lookout for an exquisite culinary experience that tantalizes your taste buds and leaves you yearning for more, Puraan Restaurant in Turnpike Lane is an absolute must-visit. As a food enthusiast, I had the pleasure of dining at this establishment recently along with my friend and I must say that my taste buds were taken on an unforgettable journey.
Ambience: The moment you step into Puraan, you are greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance. The decor is elegantly understated, creating a cozy and relaxed environment. The restaurant is spacious, yet it maintains an intimate setting, making it an ideal place for both a romantic dinner and a gathering with friends or family.
Service: The service at Puraan is impeccable. The staff members are attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable about the menu offerings especially “Basil”. They take pride in ensuring that each guest is treated with utmost care and that their dining experience is nothing short of exceptional.
Cuisine: Now, let's talk about the highlight of the evening – the food! I started with the CRISPy ghee dosa, and it was an absolute delight. The dosa was thin, perfectly crisp, and had a delightful golden hue, hinting at the generous use of pure ghee. The accompanying chutneys and sambar complemented the dosa flawlessly, adding an explosion of flavors to the already amazing dish.
For the main course, I opted for the vegetarian biryani, and I can confidently say that it was one of the best biryanis I have ever tasted. The aromatic basmati rice was cooked to perfection and layered with a medley of fresh vegetables that include beans carrot, broccoli and fragrant spices. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and tastes, leaving me enchanted by the symphony of flavors.
Portions: The portion sizes at Puraan are generous, ensuring that you leave the restaurant fully satisfied
Price: Considering the overall experience, the prices at Puraan are reasonable. The exceptional quality of the food, is justified for the prices on the menu
Conclusion: I would say this Restaurant in Turnpike Lane is a culinary gem that deserves every bit of praise it receives. Whether you are a fan of South Indian delicacies like the CRISPY ghee dosa or crave the aromatic splendor of a vegetarian biryani, Puraan will leave you captivated and craving for more.

Read moreMy wife and I had a VERY nice lunch here. The dosas are huge (although the filling is only towards the centre so the portion looks bigger than it is, but it's enough) and very nice. The food tastes very fresh (unlike some places I've been to where you can tell it was made a while ago).
I didn't enjoy the starter so much, I can't remember the name but it had broken up Bombay mix type noodles sprinkled on top which I found odd. They tasted nice though, it was more the texture. I'll probably have the spring rolls or samosas next time although I'd like to try the soup at some point. I'm not knocking a point off for food as the dosa was so good, and the starter was probably how it's supposed to be done just not to my personal taste.
I have knocked a point off for atmosphere just because it felt a bit quiet for 1pm on a Friday. I hope they get more customers in the evening as it deserves to do well given the quality of the food.
Top tip: If you haven't had one before choose a mango lhassi for your drink, I love them! Ask for tap water as well or you'll have drunk it before the food arrives.
To be aware, parking in the area is quite restricted due to the tube station being nearby. Many bays are residents only but there are some you can pay per 15m. It costs more nearer the station so we parked on one of the roads off Turnpike Lane further up. I couldn't find a machine to pay cash. Don't try and phone the number on the sign to pay it's impossible!! You should download the app and do it...

The okra frieswere a standout—crispy, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly addictive. They’re the perfect appetizer to start your meal. Another highlight was the chole masala curry. The rich, flavorful sauce combined with tender chickpeas made for a delicious and satisfying dish, especially when paired with their soft, warm kerala parotta.
