We had Mango lassi and lemon sherbet for drinks. Grilled tikka paneer and Pani Puri for our starters. Disappointing that there was no pani in the puri.. Traditionally, the pani, a spice infused flavoured water, goes inside the puri/crisp but they don't do that at Red Chilli. The paneer, a dry dish, was very good, as well as the accompanying side salad.
Between the two of us, we ordered one peshwaari naan, one plain rice, one pilau rice, tarka Daal, garlic chilli chicken, and Naga chicken. I'll talk about the best bits first. The garlic chilli chicken was fantastic. It was spicy and the chicken was tender. The peshwaari naan was sweet and satisfying, I paired this with the spicy chicken. The daal was disappointingly bland but apparently that was my fault as I did not order the spicy version. What a farce. Daal does not need to be spicy to be tasty. The waiter said, at time of ordering, that it would be runny, but when it had arrived it was thick. How strange. The Naga chicken had flavour of Naga, but wasn't spicy, or 'fairly hot', as described in the menu. It was good but a shame that it was not Naga spicy.
The masala tea was nice, and our other drinks were good.
I am of Bangladeshi ethnicity. I have nothing against Indian restaurants that are owned and managed by Bangladeshis. I'm just wondering why waiters who work at these establishments and who are of Bangladeshi origin, give me such bland and cold service? At Red Chilli, in particular, there was a stark difference between the warm service I received from the owner/manager and the cold service I received from one of the waiters (slim man with husky voice).. It was really disappointing for me. There was little effort made by the waiter to make us feel at home, or very comfortable. This is not the first time I have noticed it but the first time I've written something about it. Hope things can change in the future at establishments...
Read moreWe have visited this place several times previously and always had a great experience. NOT this time. Quite a busy evening, but we were seated quickly in the window area. Menus arrived, drinks were ordered. Food menu was extensive with good specials.
Food was ordered and the starters arrived quickly and they were delicious! ( Hence the 2 stars or It would have been 1)
Vegetable samosa and onion bhajis, presented beautifully and tasted great!!
All downhill from there. The mains arrived, 1 beef, 1 chicken dishes - beef was absolutely inedible. Chicken dish was tasteless. There were no additional spoons with the dishes for serving.
All of this was compacted into more than frustration by the fact our server couldnt speak a word of English. Now OK - Indian restaurant .. but .. I asked for drinks, he smiled and walked away, i asked for additional cutlery, he smiled and walked away, not once did anyone ask if our meal was ok, nor did anyone come to check for any additional drinks during the mains, only between courses.
So, we left a majority of the mains, and asked for the bill .. 4 times! We waited 20 minutes in a now half empty restaurant, for the bill ( which was reasonably if the food had been good)
I have always been a fan of this place, but this series of events, which actually seemed like the staff just didn't care at all, have sealed the fact I wont be returning here again and I would seriously suggest you check newest reviews...
Read moreAwful could not begin to cover our unfortunate run in with this restaurant. When we arrived we first had to wait 25 minutes for a table which we understood and waited patiently at the bar. A bar man eventually came to serve us and straight away went to serve my step dad and ignored me and my mother until my step dad told the barman to serve us first. We were eventually shown to our table and had to wait another 20 mins for someone to take an order. We asked for 3 plain and 3 spicy poppadoms and ordered our mains and our drinks. After another wait, 3 plain poppadoms were bought out. We asked 3 times for the other poppadoms and on the 3rd time of asking, 3 folded over sorry looking poppadoms where bought out with still no signs of our drinks. Eventually the drinks were bought over however they had got the order wrong, we corrected the order and waited for the amended order which when it arrived was wrong again. We then decided that we did not want to eat at this restaurant as it was so bad and the staff were rude. When we tried to leave they tried to stop us with one waiter trying to block the door, he moved promptly when my step dad walked towards the door as he is a large man. All in all I would advise anyone to stay away from this establishment, never have I had such an awful and enraging...
