I've visited Roni's Bakery in Belsize Park on at least 30-40 occasions and have consistently enjoyed my visits. However, my experience on Sunday, 13th August was deeply disheartening. The wait for our breakfast lasted for 60 minutes and we had no option but to order multiple additional drinks due to the wait. Despite enquiring at least twice about our orderās whereabouts, the delay persisted. We were then told that there was a mix up with our order and that we should expect it soon. Somewhat irritatingly, other customers sat next to us, who arrived well after us, received their orders well before we did. Whilst the owner's apology after 45 minutes and gesture of complimentary cannoli were appreciated, we were left rather disappointed and the wait continued at least another 10-15 minutes.
The primary source of my displeasure wasnāt actually the wait - mistakes happen, I get it - it was a particular waiter's appalling behaviour. When it came to settling the bill, he abruptly thrusted a card machine into my chest area, neglecting to allow me to review the bill or enquire about my preferred method of payment. Upon my request to inspect the bill and pay by cash, his evident irritation was off-putting. I've always paid service charge on my previous visits, but felt the below-par service on this day didn't merit it. When I mentioned this, instead of empathising, the waiter made a displeased sound, glared at me, and insisted that I enter the establishment to pay, giving a nonsensical excuse of a malfunctioning card machine, even though I was offering cash. Nevertheless, I was frogmarched into the indoor area. His haste to get inside ahead of me seemed to be an attempt to inform his manager about my completely justifiable decision against the service charge. This led to a very unpleasant conversation where I was made to think as though I was making my poor experience up. His following actions ā glaring and forcefully handing over my change and receipt and slamming the till ā were entirely uncalled for.
A word of advice to the staff: before acting hastily, take a moment to consider the customer's perspective. Such behaviour is unpleasant and can tarnish the reputation of an otherwise great establishment. As I said, Iāve been to Ronis many times, and sadly donāt know if I shall ever...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRoni's located in Belize Village, a quaint square halfway between Belize Park and Swiss Cottage is no longer just a local neighbourhood bakery and coffee shop. Since its opening the Belsize Village location in 2011 it has specialized in authentic bagels, Jewish baked goods with an artisan style and Mediterranean dishes. Recently it has gone though a transformation that has enlarged and modernized the shop and added a delicatessen section that is as complete than the one offered by Marks and Spencers by the Royal Free Hospital a mile away. The transformation has slightly removed the friendly local feel of the space, trading it for a more upscale space. With that said the service continues to be friendly yet at times inconsistent and aloof. During peak morning times arm yourself with patience as the table service is not proactive with preference given to takeaway customers.
The space is now comprised of small tables on the sides as two counters serving food and cakes and coffee. Roni's now also features a cheese and wine section which is probably popular with the locals. Roni`s also features four to five outside tables overlooking the main square in the warmer months which is a great feature.
The food heros and recommended dishes are the freshly baked bagels, homemade biscuits and pastries as well as the all day breakfast. The all day breakfast comes in different options including a healthy breakfast with quinoa and eggs and classics such as French toast. The menu also features main dishes, sandwiches and salads. The coffee is okay but not the standard of area coffee shops such as Loft Coffee Company. A suggestion for the owners - add a price tag to the amazing bread and bagels. It would help greatly.
Roni`s is the good option for those in the Belize Park area looking for all day breakfast and great bagels. While the new Roni's has lost some of its original neiborhood charm it is a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBOYCOTT RONIāS BAKERY. DO NOT GO HERE. Dear Muslims and anyone else who holds good ethics, DO NOT GO HERE. I went yesterday for the first time during my lunch break at work and asked if the meat was halal. The woman at the counter LIED to my face and said the chicken, the lamb and even the beef sausage was halal, but she was behaving very suspiciously so I didnāt buy those items and opted for salmon bagel instead. Got back to the office and something in my gut told me to call them and ask again if itās halal, a women from the store answered and confirmed to me that itās an āIsraeliā cafe but the food is NOT kosher and is NOT halal. To lie to a customer about the food being halal when itās not halal, is disgusting behaviour, unethical and disrespectful. I will not be visiting again. ā
Updating my response because the owner responded to my feedback saying āIām making a fuss out of nothingā and again lied to me saying āyou have been told the meat here is kosher therefore halalā. I want to state AGAIN, the person I spoke to on the phone yesterday who works at Roniās said āthe food is not kosher and is not halal.ā Therefore If the food is not halal and not kosher, you CANNOT lie to customers and say it is just to make money. It is unethical. I also did ask in store where is the halal sign if the food is halal, the staff member said it is halal but could not show me any signs. If you record your telephone conversations, then check my call yesterday where I asked if itās halal and your staff said no itās not, she even said itās not kosher. My feedback isnāt political, I have every right to be angry when Iām being lied to whether the food is halal or not. You should work on making sure your staff are correctly informed on what is halal or not, and clearly have signs confirming itās halal should customers...
