Eating dim sum in London on Coronation Day! It’s very rainy today but that won’t stop us from getting our weekly dumplings! This is Sai Kei in Greenwich (South East London). It’s always full of Cantonese families and people from all three generations. I love the vibe here because it makes me feel at home! We ordered: - Har gow prawn dumplings - Prawn and chive dumplings - Spare ribs in black bean sauce - Chicken feet in black bean sauce - Deep fried prawns with salad cream - Prawn cheung fun - Bean curd rolls - Bean curd with duck claws - Glutinous chicken rice lo mai gai - Taro croquettes #dimsum #cantonesefood #londonfood #dumplings #yumcha #chinesefood #londonrestaurants #dimsumlover #cantonesecuisine #cantonese #britishbornchinese #londonhotspots #coronationday #canto #secretlondon #minivlog #minivlogs #eatwithme #eseaeats #eseajoy #chinesecuisine #cheungfun #londonlife #londonvlog

Eating Chinese food in London, this cantonese restaurant EXCEEDED my expectations for dinner?! I’ve been to Saikei in North Greenwich for dim sum (it’s not my fave, nor my top five, but i always frat I ate back there because I love the no-frills nonsense vibe inside and being surrounded by Cantonese speakers and families of all generations) HOWEVER i enjoyed the evening a la carte menu! What we ordered: - Grilled pork dumplings with vibegar Ā£7.50 - Baked spare ribs with salt and pepper Ā£13.50 - Steamed eel with black bean sauce Ā£27.50 - King prawn fried rice Ā£15 - Deep fried ice cream Ā£6 - Sweet sago with taro Ā£5 Review: The eel wasn’t as fresh as i liked but wasn’t oversteamed or tough, flavours were balanced but a touch on the saltier side. I enjoyed it a lot tho! My boyfriend INHALED the spare ribs and adored it - i found it slightly too dry and would’ve liked big chunks of onions stir fried with the salt and pepper to break up the meat but very, very generous portion and the outside remained crispy throughout and wasn’t too oily. The king prawns in the fried rice were good. Didn’t have tons of wok hei but still enjoyed. The pork dumplings were good. Crisp, not oily and I like vinegar allllll over my dumplings. Lots of taro bits in the sago dessert and we didn’t expect TWO of the huge deep fried rice cream. All in all, this will be added to the monthly rotation for cantonese dinner options in the North Greenwich area! Generous portions, Chinese music BLARING out and surrounded by Cantonese families - the nostalgia always wins. #chinesefood #londonrestaurants #eatwithme #foodreview #cantonesefood #cantotiktok #dimsum #londonfood #londonplacestogo #cantotok #cantonesecuisine #cantonesedinner #londonhotspots #londoneats #chinesetakeaway #londonchinesefood #friedrice #chinesefoodlondon #londonfoodreview #londondining #londonbylondoners

Starting 2023 with dim sum in London! Happy New Year! My new year’s resolution this year is to continue to eat more dumplings. This is Saikei in North Greenwich, not my top favourite dim sum restaurants in London but i love coming here for the vibe, no-frills service and being surrounded by big families from all generations at weekends speaking cantonese! Dumplings are priced very reasonably with most between Ā£5 - Ā£6.50 - there are a few vegetarian options but it’s mostly limited to buns, desserts and noodles. Note: The glutinous rice is HUGE and can easily feed 4 people with a lot of shredded chicken, chinese sausage and chinese mushrooms. I didn’t like the prawn dumplings or siu mai though - too dry, came stuck together and the siu mai tasted like it was steamed from frozen. We ordered: 1. Prawn dumplings Ā£5 2. Prawn and chive dumplings Ā£5 3. Minced pork and crab dumplings Ā£5 4. Steamed spare ribs in black bean sauce Ā£5 5. Shanghai pork dumplings Ā£5 6. Turnip cake with chinese sausage Ā£5 7. King prawn cheung fun Ā£6.50 8. Steamed chicken feet in black bean sauce Ā£5 9. Scallop dumplings Ā£5 10. Glutinous rice in lotus leaves Ā£6.50 #dimsum #chinesefood #londonfood #dumplings #londonhotspots #minivlog #pov #povreels #londonrestaurants #cantonesefood #cantonesecuisine #london #2023 #happynewyear #rice #cheungfun #cantonese #chinesedumplings #minivlogs #londoneats #soupdumplings

I came with a group of friends for a birthday. We were sat immediately, and began ordering starters. I got the Deep Fried Squid in Butter and Garlic, which was delicious. Everyone else said the same for their starters. Then I ordered my main. I got the Sea Bass, which was £32 for a small portion. When they brought it over, it was a mess. They had cut it open and gotten rid of almost all the meat, leaving about 70%-80% bone. They asked if I would like it deboned, I said yes and then had to wait five minutes. They returned it, still with at least half the bones in it and the head attached still. They asked if I would like the head removed, I said yes. I then had to wait another five minutes again. Once they returned it I tried the fish, and it tasted like wet cardboard. I added the soy sauce they gave me, which did not help the texture or taste.

I asked if they could take it back, as the portion size was ridiculous for £32 and the taste wasn't pleasant. The waiter seemed very offended and began urging me to try it again and that it would be a waste of food. I told her I don't mind paying for it still and apologised, so it's not a waste and that I wouldn't want anything in replacement. By this point several staff members had gathered near the table to see what was going on, and why this waiter wouldn't take my meal.

My friend then gave me some of her chow mein, which was fantastic. But during the rest of our dinner, the several staff members hung around our table and gossiped and gave me dirty looks. Whilst we were paying, the waiter was rushing us and overcharged me for multiple drinks I did not have. As we left, they again gave me dirty looks until I had left the building.

Overall, food is quite good depending on what you get, but if you dislike something the service turns horrible. The decorations were very nice and it was quiet, but the experience was ruined after they seemed to become very upset I didn't like a dish. Would not recommend just for the...

Ā£700 bill and really not much to show for. The service was appalling, we kept on asking for more drinks, clear our plates, checking on our food, the list is endless. The food was very oily, roast duck and pork was extremely dry. The only good dish was the aubergines which was cooked exceptionally well. If it wasn’t for this, I would have given the review 1 star. Will not be my go to place, prices are steep for poor quality food and terrible service. They add 10% service charge, I wouldn’t have given this, however my parents being Chinese didn’t want to cause a fuss, if it was down to me, I wouldn’t have left them a tip let alone Ā£65! Some serious training needs to be provided to improve their customer service. Firstly be greeting customers with a smile

Update review/ if only there is an option for 0 star! We visited for dim sum on a Friday afternoon, decided to revisit for lunch convenient meeting point and parking on site. The service was terrible from start to finish, 4 members of staff standing around talking, and waved to me to come in! Is this how you greet customers? When seated and good choices chosen we were totally ignored and had to ask for a member of staff to take our order. Food arrived and was literally thrown onto the table, roast pork noodles was extremely greasy and the meat tasted like rubber, the pork puff pastry was soft and soggy, staff was so rude, no smiles from a single member of staff. Couldn’t even order a drink as one was busy watching football, another to comfy leaning against a wooden plank, two others talking away and one lady just staring at you like you are asking for to much. On paying the bill, I told the guy watching football to remove the service charge, he looked at me blankly and then let out a sigh. I have no idea if these staff are being managed, they looked like they were able to do what they wanted. I will avoid this place and drive to Yiban, yes it is further but you get the quality...

I've only been to UK for a few months. My family is originally from HK and I've lived there for 7 years in my adulthood. I can definitely say I'll be coming back because a lot of the dimsum actually tastes like it is in Hong Kong.

I've ordered har gao (prawn dumplings), siu mai (pork&crab dumplings), char siu bao (roasted pork buns), nai won bao (custard bun), malay cake (steamed sponge cake), siu lun bao (shanghai buns / xiao long bao), lo bah go (turnip paste cake), egg tarts, and yow cha gwai / fry dough cheung fun. All of them tastes legitimate like it would in HK except for the custard bun, xiao long bao, and fry dough cheung fun. The custard bun was because of our ridiculous standards of having a runny yolk variation in HK, but it was pretty good like the ones you'd find in custard bread in bakeries there. The xiaolongbao didn't have a lot of soup in it as I wished it had but otherwise okay, and the cheung fun was not properly cut and/or the fry dough wasn't fresh. But overall, I would visit again because everything was on point, just as it would be if I was doing yumcha with my family.

I see a lot of other reviews saying that the service is bad but honestly, it is just the authentic experience type of service you'd get in Hong Kong. Are you even in a HK restaurant if the waiters are pretending to not see you? Sure, the waiters might not be too responsive or making sure everything's good like western restaurants, but I gotten way better service here than I would ever eating dimsum in Hong Kong. They actually acknowledge my requests and go get it done, and they are not being impatient and yelling at me (like in HK). So as far as service go, you are getting the real deal, and embrace the fact they...
