I recently had my baby shower here at and it was totally ruined and made extremely stressful but the lack of proper management.
I had booked the garden room for around 25 people to have a sit down lunch.
Prior to the event I had been told everyone had to pre-order food, we got this all done in the time allowed. I had rung a few days before submitting the order to check that the menu was in fact the correct one as it still said âsummer menuâ which seemed odd as my event was in October. I spoke with a manager Jenny, and was assured by her that Iâd been sent the right menu. However on the day I submitted it, I again phoned the venue and was told I in fact had been sent the wrong menu, and that I would now need to go through the painful task of contacting each member of my party to amend their order as half the dishes were not available. If I hadnât have phoned to check twice doubt I even have known until the day?
After this I became concerned so I booked a meeting with Kaylee, the event co-ordinator for the venue. We sat and had a lovely chat and planned every aspect of the day, she was so helpful and receptive but also I could tell she was very stressed because they just donât seem to have any set role there, and she was having to jump up to help make drinks, it was bizarre.
Kaylee had assured me that on the day she would be assigned to working in the room my event was in. Which put my mind at ease. She kept great line of communication up on the days before and I felt we would have no issue.
However, my family arrived ahead of me to set up on the morning of my event and all of the tables we had been promised were in the wrong place. This took around 30 minutes to rectify with the manager on the day Elizabeth apparently telling my sister that they couldnât move anything. She pushed back on this and eventually they got it done but it delayed the set up. I arrived shortly after to be told that despite being assured Kaylee would be working in the room it was actually Elizabeth who had taken the decision to cover my event. Kaylee was very apologetic, but told me it was unfortunately out of her hands as Elizabeth was the manager and had made that call.
What followed was error after error and all of the lovely things I had planned went out of the window. I had pre-ordered drinks to be in the room and nothing was in there until a good 30 minutes after my guests arrived. Everyone was parched, the room was boiling hot but we were told the fans didnât work! I had to ask three times for Elizabeth to get the drinks down to us, it was so frustrating.
When we sat down to eat it became apparent that despite being so adamant that we all pre-order, Elizabeth had not even taken the time to print out the menu with the names of who was having what food. And when I questioned her on this she said she didnât have it, I suggested I send it to her for her to print but she declined. So I literally had to stand up and call out names which meant I couldnât even talk to my guests through lunch! The food service was painfully slow and chaotic, half of my guests were fed and the other half were still waiting around 30 minutes later. There were multiple confusions and even my own dish (a roast) came cold, without any potatoes or Yorkshire puddings on it!
The biggest shame of the day was that because food service took so long, it meant there were guests that had travelled a long way who I didnât even manage to speak with before they had to leave.
On the day I tried to put this all aside and enjoy my event and not get annoyed (especially at eight months pregnant!) but honestly do not understand what is going on with Enderby House? The obvious lack of management, lack of communication and total disregard for the hours spent planning this event honestly ruined it. I wouldnât recommend booking anything here until you hear theyâve had a complete overhaul of management as they are all running around like headless chickens with no clear role and no organisation, no clear management, and it shows....
Read moreI've been to Enderby House a few times since the lockdown easing in April and May. I was there last night to watch England's historic win over Germany in the Euros. The initial spot I was offered was right next to the front door but when I asked for an alternative the staff were very helpful and led me to a lively downstairs room. The TV was quite small but the atmosphere was fantastic. I had a spot of bother ordering my ales though as I'd spotted at the bar that one of my favourite ales, Proper Job, was on. But there was no option on the app to choose simply 'pint of Proper Job.' I ended up with two Proper Job Tops - lemonade had been added. Anyone who thinks this is a good idea should find another tipple. Anyway, the staff member, Luciano, was extremely helpful and swapped the 'tops' for some 'proper Proper Jobs.' The barman even delivered one of the pints himself - I think he was called Marco. He apologised and agreed with me that it's totally wrong to add lemonade to real ale! Anyway, the goals rolled in, the beers flowed, the punters roared! I've lived in Greenwich 20 years and have lots of favourite pubs but I think some of the riverside pubs have changed quite a bit and not necessarily in a way that suits me. However, Enderby House looks like it will be my new favourite. I'm a bit gutted that I can't get a table for England's quarter final on Saturday but glad they are fully booked as the pub sector has had such a tough 18 months. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Greenwich and I think it will also prove to be an excellent winter pub with its really beautifully restored rooms and bar spaces! Unforgettable night. Well kept ale. Excellent customer service....

Been looking forward to the opening of Enderby House but upon visiting on 18th April was left a bit disappointed.
On the plus side, the interior looks incredible & will be amazing when they are allowed to open inside. The outside seating was also excellent with excellent views of The Thames.
Our booked arrival time was pushed back slightly to allow for a more staggered arrival which is totally understandable. When we arrived the front of house person was super flustered & basically stared at her screen for a few minutes before deciding we could be seated.
The prices are standard Young's fare. A bit pricey for a "local" but you know that before you go.
Food from an understandably reduced menu was really average. The app did have all the options that the menu had which for us meant we could not use it. We sampled a decent selection including starters of squid, trout & garlic bread, mains of Sunday roast, burgers, fish & chips and puddings of lemon drizzle & cheesecake. Bizarrely we were told that they do not stock vinegar - in an English pub serving fish & chips??
A very pleasant lady introduced herself to us and mentioned that if we needed anything we only had to ask her. Sadly, we did not see her for the next 3 hours. We ordered our food & drink from the other staff serving the food.
Personally, I would say go for drinks. Good selection, beautiful setting but do not get involved with the food.
It has not been open for long at all so I hope our visit just encountered teething issues. I am sure they will do incredibly well purely off the back of the setting.
Good luck - we will go again but...
