Really terrible experience, wouldn't ever go back.
We went at 6pm on a saturday - it wasn't particularly busy. My partner bought a pint and a half of lager and two slices. Shortly after he'd brought them over and sat down the guy who served him (who turned out to be the manager) came over saying that he hadn't paid for his pint. What he was saying was pretty confused (that my partner had ordered a pint and then said no when he asked him if he'd got a pint so he thought he hadn't had one, even though this guy had served him the pint and charged him himself) but he was insistent (and implied my partner had tried to get away without paying) so my partner went to the bar and paid for a pint. When he came back we spoke about it and realised it didn't make sense, so he checked his bank account and worked out that he had paid for everything when he first bought it.
He went back to the bar to ask for the additional pint he'd paid for to be refunded. The manager wasn't there but he spoke to another staff member who agreed that he had paid properly first time. But he wasn't authorised to do a refund so he needed to wait for the manager to come back.
The manager came back into the bar about 5 minutes later and my partner went to speak to him. He was speaking pretty aggressively and talked over my partner a lot, who was trying to explain the situation calmly. Eventually he agreed that my partner was owed a refund, but he couldn't work the till to give one. He went away again to get cash but apparently couldn't as he came back and said my partner needed to contact the owner to get a refund.
At this point my partner had spent the best part of 20 minutes trying to sort this out, and our friends, my son and I had finished our food and drinks without him so I went over. The manager was being really dismissive and wasn't apologetic despite having wrongly accused my partner of not paying, had now overcharged him and couldn't return his money, and he'd had to spend most of his time we were there at the bar trying to sort it out. I was pretty shocked by how he was talking to him and asked if he was going to apologise, to which he said he wasn't sorry as he hadn't done anything wrong and implied that I was being racist for asking him to.
The whole experience was really terrible. The manager's behaviour throughout was quite strange and aggressive. The way he spoke to me and my partner was rude and it was ridiculous to suggest asking for an apology was racist given that the whole issue had been caused by him making a mistake.
To be fair, the other staff were all reasonable and polite, and the food was good (though no better than the other local pizza places in hackney wick i would say) but I wouldn't ever come back.
I also wouldn't recommend coming here with children. It was 6pm and light so we thought it would be fine, but there was a guy on the corner outside opposite all the outdoor tables selling balloons (not the kind for kids). The place itself was chill enough though (ignoring the...
Read moreHonestly, I'd say this is the best pizza in London.
£3 a slice (for the size), is incredibly good value. We also got a garlic bread for £6 which was (to our surprise) really big. An absolute steal in my opinion. There are some fantastic weekday and weekend deals available.
I'll definitely be making sure I make a return to the venue (my fiancé and I are actually planning on bringing a bunch of our nearest and dearest here soon to celebrate our engagement as the vibe is incredibly chilled and right up our street).
It is a little tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the regular Hackney Wick spots, but I promise that it's worth the tiny detour away from Queen's Yard.
I have visited before, back when they were in the smaller place next door. It's so nice to see they've expanded and I hope that their business...
Read moreThe place itself it's nice and we'll decorated but I'd say that's it. Pizza slices (mushrooms) were 3.5£ each, which should be cheap, but the problem here was the quality. I've eaten pizza in NY and I'm quite sure it doesn't have garlic inside, or at least not as much that it leaves you a strong after taste. The quality of the pizza is low, same quality that in Italy you pay 1.5£ for, with cheap flour, tomato paste and cheese (though it might be ok for UK standards) Unfortunately I've also felt bad the morning after and I think it was the pizza. Summarizing: the place is cool, but pizza making...
