World famous for celebrities seen staggering out of the front door at 4am or legends told of drugs, rock and roll and adult situations involving household names, Soho House is, in actual fact, a pretty diluted echo of the other prestigious members bars in London.
If you want the best cocktail in Soho, there are dozens of other places you should try first. If you want the best meal in Soho, then Soho House is halfway down that list too. But if you want to be in the same room as some recognisable faces (even though house rules forbid you to talk to them without an introduction) then sure, this is a safe bet.
What Soho House is excellent for is private parties. There isn't really anywhere else that I'm aware of in the vicinity that has such a wide range of private rooms available for booking, with a large variety of sizes and intended functions. It's a rabbit warren of social options, and if you want to entertain a large group of people in a relatively safe space away from the general public then this is the place to do it.
I've been many times in different capacities, and on the whole it's pretty decent. I like the attentive service, and the ability to have conversations with people without having to yell. I also like the absence of a crowd and (usually) the quality of the clientele makes for a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Sometimes the number of posers and blaggers can get a bit overpowering, and you'll occasionally bump into someone whose ego far outreaches their talent, and on the odd occasion you'll witness debauchery which puts you off shaking people's hands for a while and for this reason I prefer some of the other private bars and clubs that have a more modest clientele and a more hungry pursuit of quality.
Soho House is resting on its laurels at the moment while other clubs pull out all the stops to beat them. So play the field before you pick a haunt. Soho alone is heaving...

Read moreSo many reviews on here for any soho house are always guests of members so I am adding my perspective as a long term member. It used to be so so good. It used to be amazing. Some of the best nights out of my life came from popping in and then it escalating into wild frenzied fun. Pre allowing anyone in for the desperate chase of money pre 2022. They used to get amazing singers and djs, a-list celebrity q&as and master classes. You could always get into those. It felt special and you felt part of a really exciting club. A home from home when travelling. There was a sweet spot where they had diversified their membership and became more inclusive but then the flood gates opened to anyone and most of the new people are rude to other members and to (lovely) staff. Now everything is tiered and shut off. You see good nights as photos and private invite only. Never any room just to hang out. It’s so frustrating. They’ve also let in some truly nasty egos - and when you look those people up they aren’t interesting. It is now a glorified chain of restaurants, with insane prices that are just greedy matched with being utterly unreliable. Not worth the membership and lots of people are leaving. There are other more fun places to go now. It will never get better. They’ve had years to sort it out. I had two good experiences in a whole year of membership. More misses than hits....
