As a Kosher only eater, I find that I'm regularly disappointed by the quality of food in the UK, in particular, when it comes to all things "meat". Eating out in Paris, New York or Tel Aviv, you experience variety and varying quality, which means you can always find something you desire how ever your cravings guide you. The UK kosher meat cuisine has always disappointed me with its monotonous repetition of perpetual "sameness", choosing a restaurant is almost less about the food and more about the convenience of location or (un)fairness in pricing. The competition between these restaurants has never been with regards to food quality, or so I suspect having watched and tasted over the years, this is no good for the consumer (and in my opinion not for the vendor either).
Finally, we have some healthy competition in the form of SOYO Diner. A restaurant whose food is so good that I am willing to order pretty much anything on the menu with almost 100% guarantee of no buyer's remorse. I had heard some mixed reviews going in for the first time, maybe that set me up for an even greater impression, but so far, I have been continually amazed by SOYO Diner.
If the quality and variety of the food wasn't already spectacular, the customer service has been above and beyond, a factor hugely lacking in similar Kosher restaurants. Each time I step in the shop, I am greeted and made to feel valued, regardless of how bustling the place is. The food portions are generous and quite honestly fairly priced considering how much bang you get for your buck.
As for recommendations, I have three. If you're a schnitzel person, go for the ultimate schnitzel club sandwich, the ratio of schnitzel to vegetables is incredibly well balanced, coupled between two thick plump granary bread slices Can't decide between a burger or a salad? Get both! Pick a salad and alongside order a "Rock N Roll" 3 mini burgers perfectly crafted to whet your appetite I have been assured by a, shall we say, far more adventurous friend, whose penchant for non-kosher meat and cheese is staggering, that the Double Cheesy Burger is the closest Kosher alternative in taste to real cheese on a burger. Needless to say, he was left both dumbfounded and in awe
I can't recommend SOYO Diner enough, it's about time we had something good to eat....
Read moreHi I am very upset with my recent visit to your restaurant in Golders Green, it is a shame as a lot of my friends go there all the time and I have only been twice on both occasions I have not been happy.
First time was a joint birthday dinner with a friend who goes all the time to your place...first the food was late then it was wrong then it was cold......anyway brushed aside the staff were friendly and apologetic but it put me off...
So my friends were going after a fireworks display on Sunday so I thought i would try again and give it another go as everyone seems to be so happy there....As its kosher I know its more expensive than I would normally pay for a meal as I am not Kosher...but my friends are so we went there.....So i budgeted my meal made sure i could afford it....was not impressed with the service..I only ordered salmon and spinach leaves and ordered mine quite quickly...another friend arrived later a lot later his dinner arrived first mine arrived LAST out of 12 friends.....anyway got over that...when it came to paying the waitress was very nice but seemed put off that she had to take our payments individually and i gave her £15 with the understanding I was going to pay £10.20 with a £1.50 tip which as I was not impressed with the service was unhappy to do so but thought ok do not want to make a fuss....anyway the waitress came back and said as others did not pay the service tip we have taken £4.80 out of your £15 and i was forced to pay it which is not fair and not my fault i cant be responsible for others not paying.... . A, she should not of done that automatically and for my reasons they were lucky to get any tip...not happy and wont be coming back to SOYO!!! I know they do not care as they are busy there and popular but I have only been twice and on those occasions I have been stung!!! I should get my tip back by rights!!!
Also just to point out I...
Read moreThe vibe at this establishment is so weird, they might as well put up a sign that says “Jewish only” at the door. I gave it a go a second time, and all it did was confirm that I shouldn’t have come back.
The first time I came, the service was unfriendly, I felt very uncomfortable actually. They would take forever and a day to service me, but happily acknowledged and serviced other customers. I had a salmon burger last time, It was ok nothing amazing.
The second time though, today, I had to walk out of the restaurant because it was just pitiful. I wasn’t greeted when I walked in, all other customers after me were however. Took the server 100 years to bring a menu, did it for everybody else rather quickly though. Also took customers who arrived 10-15 minutes after me orders first. When I noticed this, I had enough and walked out. I am in disbelief, I have never ever experienced this before. The attitude is pathetic, this isn’t 1950. Golders green is a melting pot full of restaurants offering many cuisines, italian, korean, japanese, persian, greek, turkish all have been very friendly and inviting except this very one. Weird!!
If the establishment isn’t going to be welcoming to people of other backgrounds who respectfully come to give their business some money, then they should just say that. That being said, I’ll refrain from being open and supporting such businesses and stick to the...
