Could have gave negative -100000000 stars cuz the staff were super RACIST!! Esp the Indian girl with pony tail.

The cashier gave us head to toes glance since we ordered. We ordered 5 different dishes and another 2 hot drinks + water.

The food came out really late , took up 1.30 hrs to get everything, over 15-20 mins in between, and the cutlery were missing. After 40 mins of nothing, we asked the waiters/waitress and nothing came out. Then once the two dishes came (10 mins in between), there were none of cutlery. So, i thought it was self service.

Then, I walked up and asked at the counter where they have cutlery upfront whether i can take some cutlery from there the Indian girl/waitress laugh at us and said “You can just wait” with the head to toes glance again.

I mean the customer need to wait for u to finish up all dishes so we can get the cutlery? 1.30 hrs to get the cutlery? Are u kidding?

When our last dish came, she said in front of my parents, “Oh you, Chinese people can’t wait huh!?”

I was so mad but my parents stopped me cuz we need to rush for other appointment. That’s why I am giving star here and ppl should have know how racist they can be here.

First of all, We are not Chinese (We don’t even look anything close to East Asian 😂) and no customer should be treated like that.

2nd is food coming out at 40mins is acceptable for a café? Really? we asked and waited and we still got told to be waited with laugh? Cutlery need to be wait for all food to be served?

3rd I don’t think my English is a problem cuz the cashier got my order right away with out asking what I wanted twice. But it’s maybe too much for 9 items at a time??

4th We are at our best politeness. No one stood out or cutting the line like other customers. My family sat and waited patiently, no walking around. Meanwhile, other customers were shouting, cutting the line, kids ran around. And we still got this racism? While other customers are not being...

Years ago this was a quaint, quiet cafe in the park. It is now larger and looking good but has more of an 'upmarket' fast food feel. It looks classy inside but then has unnecessary loud pop music on that doesn't fit the interior.

The service is frustrating and a number of customers were exasperated loudly while I was there on a half busy weekday morning. The entry door gets clogged with people ordering drinks and then next to that, waiting for them. There isn't a sensible flow and people next to me had been waiting a while for drinks while others wanted to order or collect.

I couldn't order without a table which meant either leaving my coat to keep the seat and go order, or risk losing the table after giving the number. The system only works for groups.

I ordered toast and got very limp bread with burn mark (could not ever be described as toast), the marmalade arrived as jam, the butter was already liquid. The coffee was okay but nothing special.

The staff are busy but the attention to customer orders was not right. I'd go back only for coffee and sit outside perhaps. There did not appear to be any management. The toilets were clean bur one of three taps didn't work.

They promote their carbon neutral credentials but then serve wooden disposal cutlery. I'm sure rather would say it is sustainable wood sources but it jarred a bit.

Hopefully you have a better experience. I miss the old cafe...

I live quite close to this cafe and have visited many times, but the quality of the service and refreshments is horribly inconsistent. Today's was nothing short of appalling. With only one member of staff taking orders the wait time was excessive, as was the wait for the ordered drinks. I saw them put a prepared hot chocolate towards the back of the prep area and there it sat, waiting for the coffees to arrive. At that point the staff, realising that the hot chocolate was now definitely not hot, topped up the mug with more hot milk. This overflowed into the tray and when I asked for a saucer, was told they couldn't let me have one and would have to ask for permission. I returned the chocolate and realised that asking for a refund would also possibly take an excessive amount of time. The tables on the veranda area were horribly cheap and a lot of them were not stable. You have an amazing spot for this cafe in a beautiful park and you are wasting an opportunity to provide an experience that would have people wanting to visit again. At the moment I suspect that many of the people in there today would have left with a very negative opinion and I for one will not be back until you have made considerable improvements to your ordering...

I give the food at the St.James Cafe 5 stars! I was totally blown away with the menu items. I tried the Josper Chicken and a Mount Grace Beef Burger. The presentation 👌 was beautiful and everything we tried was absolutely delicious! Fast service, generous portions, friendly staff, clean restrooms, reasonable menu prices, and smack dab in the middle of the park! The dessert selections look soooooo good! I will definitely return!

This place is well managed, with good service and good food. The location is also frankly as good as it gets. So why, why, has this place not got its act into order and sorted out its terrible toilets yet? They are a disgrace. Only word for it. And surely even a little attention could make at least some difference whilst they wait for the requisite planning permits to arrive for a more profound change? Every time I go in there, and my wife has the same experience, I wonder at how such a nice place could continue, for so long, to shame us and itself with such third world facilities. UPDATE MAY 13/2018 As you can see from the photo, a simple bit of cleaning with limescale remover would make a hell of a difference, but do they bother? No. This is the limescale that accumulates over a good period of time, and it makes the male toile disgusting. Management resign please.
