I went to this pub a week ago with my wife and two friends. I ordered 3 drinks, one of which was a half pint of Guinness. The Guinness was served in a party plastic cup, about third of a pint. When I complained, the bar tender said "does that mean you're asking for a top-up", with a sarcastic grin on his face! So I thought ok, I'll drink some and then get him to top it up to half pint. But he refused to to up, saying he won't do it because I've drunk some!! This was appalling service from a totally unprofessional member of staff, just taking advantage and expecting to get away with it! Don't go here, you'll probably get conned, like I did!!! Edit after staff reply: Thank you for your polite reply, however I can assure you that the plastic cup that my Guinness was served in could not hold half a pint of liquid, even including the frothy head that good Guinness has. I should have taken a photo of the cup to include in this review, but I didn't think of it. However, I'm sure that all readers know the type I mean, that's used at children's parties, made of very squashy, thin plastic. I'll give you the benefit of doubt, that you weren't aware that drinks were being served in these cups on that occasion. Or possibly your staff had run out of the correct cups and that was the only type available for my drink. In any case, none of this excuses the extremely impolite response I received from your member of staff! I can see that most of your reviews are quite good, apart from the occasional complaint about food quality, so perhaps I was unlucky on that day? However, I will not be returning to your pub, and other Google viewers can see this review and make their...
Read moreWhilst in London we stopped here for something to eat. The history on the walls is mesmerizing. This is a beautiful cozy and extremely unique pub. I really enjoyed looking at all the photos and paintings on the walls.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Happy to help they seemed very pleasant.
We sat upstairs and ordered a Chicken Tikka and Chicken hock & Leak pie with mash and tender stem broccoli. We ordered a drink and sat for the food to be made. After a very very short time the food was on the table. Far too quick for my liking. I always worry when the food is on the table within 10 minutes.
The Chicken Tikka came with a poppadom was really tasty I really enjoyed it. The brown rice tasted like it was microwaved. It tasted ok tho and I eat it all. I think this meal could have been better with a naan bread.
The Chicken pie was really nice but sadly the mash and the veg were cold. It was eaten as we just wanted to eat and go. It was a shame tho as the pie was really good quality and was really enjoyed.
I was really impressed with one member of staff tho, say a couple of tables away was a group of men who were quite loud and singing every time roasted a drink. The member of staff approached them and explained she wanted to enjoy themselves, had no problem with that but asked them to have the other customers in mind. She handled this situation extremely well.
Would I visit this pub again? Yes I would I enjoyed my visit. Would I eat here again? Probably not as I have a feeling that food is pre cooked...
Read moreVisited here for a meal before a show. I had booked online, we were seated in the upstairs dining area. Lovely so far. Our orders were taken quickly - two mocktails and two steak sandwiches. This is where it went wrong!
When the food came out, the chips were lukewarm. The sandwich was described as being on a bloomer loaf - it was basically a shop bought loaf. The steak was so rare I’m surprised it didn’t have a pulse. we hadn’t been asked how we wanted it cooked. I took a bite and struggled as it was so chewy, it was also cold. I gagged and spat it out. My daughter didn’t touch hers. I asked the waitresses if we could send it back and order something else. To their credit, this was fine. We both ordered hunter’s chicken - again, not great! It was luke warm, the chicken was served sliced and then with bbq sauce (not much) dolloped on, topped with streaky bacon that was really fatty and not well cooked, then a handful of grated cheese dumped on top. The cheese was almost melted - it should have been properly melted - so it was clumpy. The “triple cooked chips” were so brown they looked like they had come out of the bottom of the oven. Of the 12 chips I had, only about 6 were edible (the others would have broken my teeth). We didn’t want to complain about a 2nd meal so we ate what we could.
The service was lovely but the food was mediocre. A shame as it was a 21st birthday treat for my daughter and a Mother’s Day treat for me.
I think this is a nice place for a pre-show drink. Just...
