Visiting from out of town and needed food on a Sunday evening. Ordered fish and chips and a burger, and draft hard cider. Burger was fantastic—sweet instead of dill pickles—and was properly cooked. Fish came out without tartar sauce. I asked the server (once I saw one 5 minutes later) and all he said was “we’re out”. Be proactive, apologize, be genuine, but the server was none. And the fish wasn’t very crispy either... ordered dessert—super excited to see rhubarb on the menu as a crumble topping with apple—yet it was ONE small piece of rhubarb with an entire boat of lumpy applesauce with what seemed to be Grapenuts poured on top. I mentioned the lack of rhubarb to the server—he didn’t care. So, I don’t care to go back and would not recommend it to others.

Great Atmosphere, but Serious Hygiene Concern Raised I recently visited this popular tourist spot, and overall, the ambiance and food were enjoyable. However, I wanted to share an important concern. During my visit, I went to the restroom and saw a male employee using the facilities while wearing silicone gloves, which he did not remove or wash after use. I brought this to our server’s attention, who politely thanked me and asked for a description of the employee. I understand that this place sees a high volume of tourists, and many might not check reviews like this, but I felt it was worth mentioning for the sake of public health and safety. A small change in hygiene practice could make a big difference in ensuring a safe experience for everyone.

This is a lovely pub serving classic British food at reasonable prices for the area. A short distance from Trafalgar Square, The Clarence is in an excellent central location. We dined in The Tin Belly dining room upstairs, which in a weekday evening in January was pleasantly quiet. The waiter did say it does get very busy usually though so booking is recommended. The menu and wine list were both fairly substantial and lots of good options to choose from. Food arrived swiftly and was well portioned. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and said the food was very good quality. Our waiter was polite and attentive, filling wine glasses when they ran low. I would recommend this place if you’re after a cosy pub to have good food in.

Drinks are decent, albeit on the expensive side. The pub also has a rustic and cozy vibe, which is nice. However, my friends and I were appalled by the behaviour of one of the servers when we dropped by for a drink yesterday. There weren't any free tables, so we had our drinks standing - a widely acceptable practice in pubs. We were mindful to ensure there was walkway space for customers and staff to navigate around the pub and behind the bar. This was appreciated by the other workers, but one of the servers (a petite woman with dark hair) was completely unprofessional and aggressive in her conduct. She pushed me from behind, pretending she didn't have enough space to pass through. I knew I had left sufficient space for people to walk through, and my friends had seen that her pushing me was intentional, despite her feigning innocence. I didn't say anything. No more than ten minutes later, she had pushed my friend with a bin! She poorly attempted to play innocent again, but my other friends and I saw that she had pushed my friend on purpose. On both occasions, she did not try to ask us to move out of the way before pushing us. Regardless, there is no excuse for shoving customers like that.

I should reiterate the other workers had no major issues moving around us; there was only one or two occasions we were slightly blocking the way, to which we quickly apologised and swifly moved out the way. Sadly, the impolite worker's actions tainted our experience; people like her should be nowhere near the...

Looks like someone else had a similar experience of being blatantly ignored by staff. Fair enough we arrived during a busy period and had to sit upstairs and bar/restaurant downstairs and outside was full. Upstairs was pretty quiet, only a few tables sat with food/drinks. Completely ignored by the bartender, yes he was in the middle of things but seemed as he was only able to serve one table at a time (very inefficient and not logical). I thought I might need to order at the bar, possibly giving him a little less to do as it saves him coming out twice. I’m stood like clearly invisible to him and then after about 5 minutes, without even looking at me, he says “I’m coming to you next”. I go back to my table and wait.. Where he then doesn’t actually come to me next but goes and takes the order of another table (who also seemed to be waiting for an unnecessarily long time). We’d been there about 20 minutes and no service, sorry but if you don’t have time for us we don’t have time for you, I’ll happily take my business elsewhere. Overall, terrible service and rude staff. Shouldn’t have even bothered giving it a try when reading other reviews about...

Did not look anything like this. We visited before going to the matinee of Jersey Boys at the Trafalgar Theatre which was just across the road. Most tables were reserved for the lunch time trade I presume so all tables in the light airy front were taken. We were sat at the back much darker more cramped. I ordered fish pie and my friend Ndjua( spicy) mac and cheese. Neither of us were impressed with the food. Service was good - friendly and smiley but the food was terrible!! It was obvious both had been frozen. My fish pie had more salmon than any other fish that was described to be in the pie. It was also quite small. The Langoustine that came on top they might as well not have bothered to put on. It was tiny, the meat inside it was about the size of my thumbnail and watery. Certainly not worth the money!! I actually commented at the till about both my comments above. I was just looked at - 😕 No - 'Sorry Madam it wasn't to your taste' or an offer of any recompensation. Some might say well it was pub food! Believe me I have eaten pub food that could have been given a Michelin Star- no excuse. Will not be...
