Absolutely appalling Covid practices. Of the four people working in the kitchen only one of them was wearing a mask. When I asked the manager why the others weren't wearing masks, every staff member, including the two older men who were in the staff area sitting close together without masks, looked at me sheepishly. The manager told me they all suffered breathing difficulties. Three of the four in the kitchen plus the two in the staff area suffered breathing difficulties?! Give me a break. When I suggested that should they catch Covid they will likely pass it on to some of the people ordering the food they're preparing, I was assured that they've all already had Covid. As though that makes it ok. And even if that were the case does this mean they've already passed Covid on to many??? Very disappointed in Sumak. How about having some respect for your customers firstly by being grateful that you even have jobs in these difficult times, and secondly by furloughing and replacing those that have "breathing difficulties" so that those preparing food can do so safely???
In the name of public safety I will periodically check back on them and update this review.
In response to yours below...
You were the one who created the issue with the price, I politely asked if £11.50 was correct and you took it personally. You're saying that you all use face coverings? Wow, and you're calling ME a liar??? To clarify, are you trying to tell me that you were all wearing face masks last night and that I'm lying about this?? Do not make excuses, own your actions and make the appropriate and...
Read moreI was excited when I saw an up market Turkish Restaurant had opened in crouch end, Little did I know my hopes and expectations would be crushed and discarded like a cheap Dixy chicken meal. My party attended the restaurant at 7:00 , it took around 45 minutes before we were offered any service at all. Once ordered we waited another 30 minutes for our drinks and bread to arrive. We managed to order starters but after another 20 minutes we were told they did now have the items we ordered and that they had replaced them with totally different starter that offered little resemblance to the composition of our original order.
My associate requested an alteration to his order to was told something along the lines of this cannot be done as it would lower class of the dish. The mains finally arrived 2 hours after we arrived and they really were not worth the wait.
I was extremely disgruntled and vowed I would never to go there again, unfortunately a friend of mine wanted to try this place out ignoring my advice and went through exactually the same experience.
It appears the construction of the place houses too many tables and not enough space to efficiently manoeuvre and serve customers , possibly they are under staffed or are unable to efficiently manage the serving of food effectively.
It would have been much wiser to go to the kebab shop a few doors down even though the food...
Read moreThe standard experience received from most Turkish restaurants. As you all know, there is no shortage of these in the area. They all pretty much serve the same food - expertly grilled meats, tasty and well dressed salads, light fresh bread and delicious dips / mezze options.
Two issues with this place:
A meal for 3 with 3 beers came out to £90...we shared one starter and ordered a main each only - this does feel overpriced compared to other places in this region as you can definitely get more food for less money locally. Not a complaint, but I won't be rushing back for this.
The beer on offer is actually some form of fake. I asked for the Efes on draft but I received a bottle of beer with a home printed label on it that referred to it as Efes draft. I poured this into a glass and observed what may be the most watery, blandest lager known to man. This ploy may work on the inebriated but at £5.50 it's the most expensive beer on offer and clearly a con. Having raised the issue that you cannot call a draft beer so if bottled to the wait staff, he offered a different beer to me, but still charged us for the first abomination. I suggest Trading Standards intervene and will be raising this...
