Wow… let’s pause again, WOW!
I was just looking for a little nibble, some chicken wings. I live next door to this place, and the previous owners weren’t good at all, and they only had a one-star rating. So when the new owners took over, I didn’t go in.
But then, as I passed by, practically their neighbour, I noticed their uniforms, brilliant white and immaculately clean. Through their window, I could see the salad, fresh, vibrant, and full of colour. A good measure of quality is in the small details. If you get the little things right, it’s a good sign of care, quality, and attention to everything. My curiosity was triggered by the sight of their salad and spotless uniforms.
One day, I was about to walk much further up the road for some average chicken, just to satisfy my post-work hunger, when I decided, let’s go into Suuya Grill for a browse…
The first thing I saw was their chicken on the grill, it looked tasty just from its appearance. Then I spotted lamb chops grilling beside it. The owner told me I could have a chicken and rice meal deal, but as I don’t eat rice too often, I asked about just the chicken. He kindly said he could sort something out for me with the chicken and a lamb chop.
Then came the moment, he offered me a sample of the chicken.
Oh. My. Gosh!!! SOLD. 😃
My deprived taste buds, especially as I was fasting, started dancing and singing! It reminded me of carnival-style food, the kind cooked by the best caterers, the ones you’d recommend for weddings or wakes because of their high satisfaction and quality.
And the lamb chop? Divine.
These guys know how to season everything perfectly, the flavours are balanced to perfection. On top of that, they were friendly, professional, and had such a warm, welcoming spirit. There were three of them, and they all interacted with me in such a friendly and respectful way, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
And the food, the food, the food!
Right on my doorstep. How blessed am I?!
I’ll definitely be back soon, maybe even right after writing this review, because just describing it has me salivating!
Excellent work, guys, thank you so much!
And to top it all off, they’re newly opened with a full-5⭐️ hygiene rating, but you can already tell just by looking at the place.
Marvellous!...
Read moreI was truly excited to see an African restaurant open in my area, and even more excited to support a Black-owned business. Until now, my only access to African cuisine was Enish, which charges a premium just for Jollof rice on delivery. So when Suuya Grill opened, I couldn’t wait to try it.
Unfortunately, the food was a massive letdown. The Jollof rice was just orange-colored white rice—no depth of flavor, no smokiness, nothing that resembled authentic Jollof. The suya, which I was most excited for, lacked any of the signature smoky, spicy flavors and was instead smothered in a peanut sauce. I was completely confused. While I appreciate the clear signage about nut allergies, I never imagined that suya and Jollof rice would come drenched in peanut sauce—it’s not something I’ve ever experienced before.
That being said, the service was great, which makes this even more disappointing. I wanted to love this place and become a regular, but based on the food, I simply can’t go back. I really hope they take feedback on board because the...
Read moreMy wife and I were visiting London and wanted to try some Nigerian halal food. This place popped up when we searched, so we decided to stop by for dinner after a looong day out.
We ordered the beef skewers (Suya) with jollof rice and salad — and wow, it was amazing! The meat was tender and spicy, the rice was fluffy and full of flavour, the salad was fresh, and the portions were really generous for the price!
I usually have a rule to only visit a restaurant once during my trip so I can try different places, but this one might actually make me break that rule!
Delicious food, great portions, and overall just a lovely experience. Thank you for the great meal — may...
