Update
Just want to update this as went in tonight and apart from the fact it was banging, we got served fast and the place was clean and we found a seat outside. Got to say this is a big pub, big garden and big eatery and bar area, and they do so well keeping everything going the way they do. I don't live nearby anymore but tonight we made a stop at Tooting purely to go here for a last drink and it was as good as ever!
Thank you again! Brilliant pub!
Previous review: Well this will be a crazy review but the stars tell everything.
Booked for 12, Christmas dinner, all's good! Jumpers on, music playing, fire crackling. We had delicious starters and mains, I had the mackerel pate and the turkey (which was so juicy!!!). My partner had roasted squash....slightly underwhelming but the beef made up for everything. Absolutely perfectly cooked, served, as the turkey was, with all the trimmings. Delicious food, warm and well seasoned. I followed this with Xmas pud and my partner crumble (better than grandma!), You will pick the pot with your finger!
Ok this was washed down with some delicious Picpul and a beautiful bottle of red......what was crazy about all that??
So, about 45 mins in the pub, and street list power! No lights, heating, cooking you name it! We had several power outages over the course of the evening meaning food could only be prepared slowly and when power permitted.
They managed to serve all twelve of us, still seriously impressively!
The big shout out goes to Roche (sp) you were absolutely phenomenal. You deserve a huge raise and should be an example of what an incredible front of house staff member should be. We cringed at the news you had to deliver but you did it so professionally, friendly, and with deep empathy, our table melted for you and believe if it wasn't for you, we would have simply up and left.
We had a lots of people around that table in hospitality on a grand scale. You wowed us all and I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to poach you as an events project manager đ
John, you came through at the end, I believe, and appreciate you kind gestures to our dark, cold, delayed table. The music did eventually come on and so did the heat!
NB:All tips should go to roche tbh, I saw no one else working so hard for our...

The nearest tube is Tooting Broadway, a statue of Edward VII is at the front of the station. . The Castle is one of Tootingâs oldest pubs and has been part of the Youngâs estate since 1832. There is lots of folklore and history attached to this pub, American actor John Wayne is known for frequenting The Castle in the 1940s. In the 1970s, the pub had an excellent reputation for live music and hosted the Tooting Blues Club and bands The Faces and Mott the Hoople. . This is a massive pub, it was extensively refurbished in 2014 and tweaked a bit more recently. The decor here is contemporary with industrial and traditional touches throughout. The well lit servery is situated at the right hand side as you walk in, further down the bar there is what looks like a sizeable breakfast bar which then leads to a cosy dining area and conservatory at the back. Next is the huge and popular beer garden, the garden is partly covered and also has some comfy weathered timber huts to chill in. Overall, the decor felt modern, stylish and very appealing. . This @youngspubs has a fine selection of beers including five cask options. This was my last pub of the day, so I took it easy and had a pint of Pravha. My pint was good and cost under six quid, so no complaints. The food menu serves up elevated pub classics, Fish & Chips costs ÂŁ18, there is also a burger menu that looked top notch. . I visited around 4pm on a Saturday afternoon and the atmosphere was buzzing with an upbeat vibe. The punters were from all ages but predominantly a younger crowd. I went for a wander around the pub and I have to say this is an impressive boozer. . The @castletooting is a busy happening pub with a lively atmosphere. The beer choice was decent and not too pricey. The enormous beer garden must be up there with the best in London. If youâre down in SW17 then check this pub out folks. . âšď¸ Info correct on...
Read moreThe atmosphere here is fun but service is so slow and we were SO disappointed last night after being served possibly the worst burgers weâve ever had. I donât like to leave negative reviews but we felt like we had to say something after this experience.
The fact that there is a separate Burger Shack (which advertises the âbest burgers in townâđ) made us think theyâd be great! Ordering on the app, we went by the photos and they looked nice, just what we wanted. I got a classic burger - it was 2 little flavourless patties in between a cheap bun with a tiny bit of sauce and NOTHING else. Literally not even a piece of cheese, onion or salad?! Sooo dry and tasteless. My partner ordered a chicken burger and it was a bit of defrosted battered âchickenâ that looked like plastic (you wouldnât even know it was chicken, we thought it was a birdseye fish fingerđ ) and again it was completely dry. It took about 40 minutes to come and when it arrived we were visibly shocked⌠I couldnât believe that someone would actually think it was ok to serve this to a paying customer?! They were ÂŁ13 each and honestly a 3 year old would make a better burger than that. We expressed this to the server who brought them but she seemed rushed off her feet and unable to do anything about it. We were starving but could only eat a few bites as it was just awful. We wanted to ask for a refund but it was SO busy and the queues at the bar were sooo long that it would have taken another 40 minutes to sort out and we had to leave soon after. Very very disappointed. Would not advise anyone...
