Having read great things about the atmosphere and quality of food on offer, I decided to give this spot a try. I shall not be making the same mistake again.

The menu reads well but the quality of food served leaves very little to be desired; rationed or missing ingredients, cold and poorly presented. The food looked like the slop you would expect to be served at a children's play centre or café at a retail park bowling alley.

If being a chef means being able to prepare and serve defrosted and prepacked food then why not just openly serve microwave ready meals?

The pub itself is in serious need of of renovation. Sticky tables, 'mood' lighting, stale smelling furniture & carpeted floors aren't charming - they're just dated.

Aside from the the gentleman that greeted us, the staff marched around angrily and couldn't be more keen to try & take our half empty plates and glasses, clearly seeing that we hadn't yet finished. Yes, things post-lockdown are indeed different but this doesn't excuse a poor attitude.

Needless to say that I will not be returning after this experience. A complete and utter waste of both...

EDIT: I loved this pub but after recent events I can't say I'll go back anymore. The main reason for that is there is one guy who serves me - stocky, brown hair, I believe with glasses on - who has made my drinks more expensive than they should have. A soda and lime was 90p instead of 30p last month, and last night I went in and got 2 diet cokes which came to £9.50 when he said out loud £5.10. I've seen him input numbers rather than the item.

Unfortunately in this day and age I don't ask for receipts, but please take my warning on this guy. Other staff members are great.

As well as that, I went for a Sunday Lunch which was drastically different and lower in quality than the last time I went there for one (around 3 years ago before management changed I think).

Really disappointed, think I'm going to have to travel all the way to North or East Finchley for a decent pub.

OLD COMMENT: Quality pub, quality food,...

I've been here numerous times and is my favourite in the group of local pubs that I walk to. Be it drinks with the girls, post work drinks or with the boyff it works well. It's divided into several areas and I normally go for the comfy leather sofa where you can sit back and chat away over a pinot! The drinks are +average priced, but that also means you don't get the wetherspoon crowd in here. The food is good, and the nibbles menu when you don't want to actually eat is perfect for a selection of on the table. The toilets are always clean and well maintained and I've yet to be stranded with the "no loo roll dilemma". Bar staff are friendly and can take a joke, but don't invade your personal space. I like the fact that you don't have to shout and lose your voice to have a conversation. Yup, definitely my favourite in...

The Catcher in the Rye: A Cracking Pub in Finchley Central Towards the end of May, I had a meeting near Finchley Central. For lunch, we fancied finding somewhere decent for a bite to eat and a pint. We took a stroll down Regent's Park Road and stumbled upon this really nice, lively pub. The manager, who was super friendly and switched-on, got us a table straight away. He suggested we try their chicken schnitzel and chips. We took his advice, and honestly, it was one of the best schnitzels we've ever had. Especially with those chips, done properly with a hint of truffle oil. If you're ever in that neck of the woods, you really should pop into this bar. The prices are spot on, and the service is top-notch. It’s a proper gem. Nick #drfoodielondon

Very impressed. Called in for a pint to kill time waiting for a Spike Milligan event nearby. Lovely lady poured my pint and then kept it behind the bar for me while I used the loo (lone traveller doesn't ever like to leave an unattended pint at table) When I got settled at my table, I'm not even lifting it to my lips when she runs up and takes it off me saying it was likely bottom of the barrel, and she'd rather bring me a fresh one. Two min later I've got a delicious pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord. Will come back definitely! And all this despite J.D. Salinger's novel being quite the worst thing I've ever had to read 🤣...almost didn't go in on account of the name 😀
