For the first time of going to the Chamberlayne, I was very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant section at the back was spacious and beautifully furnished and the ability to see part of the kitchen whilst dining was lovely. Our server was really polite and attentive, checking on us periodically throughout the meal to make sure we had enough drinks and the food was to our liking.
With the food, it was absolutely scrummy. The only 2 tiny downsides that I would say against the food (as we ordered the Sunday roast) was that (1) the 'gravy' wasn't actually gravy in that it was the merest splash of liquid on a plate that they could get away with using and (2) one roast had no gravy and when gravy was asked for, it was about a 10 minute wait for a small milk jug of gravy. It would have been lovely to have an actual decent amount of gravy as otherwise, the meal was quite dry except for our drinks. Apart from those 2 very small things, the rest of the meal was scrummy - very generous portions which I found refreshing as most other places I have dined at give portions half the size but still charge the same price that Chamberlayne. Pudding was really lovely too.
All in all, a great experience for food and drink for the first time at the Chamberlayne. Will definitely be returning there for another occasion as it was definitely...
Read moreWent for afternoon dinner. While waiting we could see the chefs preparing the meals. Then one chef cuts raw fat off a piece of meat then shows it to another chef who was preparing salads and he places this raw meat onto the same chopping board where the salad was being prepared. The second chef then picks it up and throws it into the bin and goes back to preparing salad.
The chopping board was never changed and his gloves were never changed. This salad was then served to us after we watched the cross contamination. We promptly complained to the nice waitress and we continued with the rest of our meal without touching the contaminated salad. On receiving the bill we saw that we were being charged for the salad and asked another waitress to remove the charge which she did but when she returned with the new bill she was obviously annoyed that we had asked for this refund.
Food was very nice. Just a shame that this happened. What would have been many repeat visits, the restaurant is no longer on our radar because of this second waitress's attitude. Food poisoning is serious and we felt like we had to highlight it to someone, and what did we get for it in return? An obviously...
Read moreI wrote this review back in August but for some reason I can’t see it on this page. The Rise is an excellent pub and was nothing short of amazing for my birthday. The pub was so catering to what I wanted from start to end. We met with the manager beforehand who carefully went through what he thought the space should look like. He helped us pre order food and catered to the many dietary preference and allergies. On the day, the space was beautiful and we had the staff catering to us non stop. Everyone was so polite and the food was delicious. They made my birthday after a year of isolating and restrictions so much fun! We were celebrating in the back of the pub and had full use of the outdoor terrace and the entire inside area. The pizzas we ordered were so delicious, cocktails were yum & the atmosphere was great. Thank you so so much for being so incredible and so kind! We can’t wait to be back for another celebration in the not so...
