Tonight was the second night I visited the pub in a row simply because I’ve had such an enjoyable experience the first time around.
First of all, the food is amazing. Speaking as an American, the food was a great way to get acquainted with classic British pub food. Their fish and chips was perfectly cooked and was a great portion. Tonight my friends and I split the lamb Sunday roast for three and it was simply amazing. We added on some cauliflower cheese and enjoyed every bite. The lamb was so tender and flavorful without a hint of gaminess. I was also a big fan of the roasted potatoes and yorkshire puddings.
My second favorite aspect is the ambiance. The clientele at this establishment is a mix of young and old, local and visiting. It’s a great place to strike up a conversation with someone new. We did the pub quiz tonight which I believe is hosted every Sunday evening starting at 7:30 PM. It’s a great place to grab a meal, sip on a drink, and just chat with friends.
I think my overall favorite part of this establishment would have to be the staff. Every employee I’ve come into contact with has been immensely helpful and hospitable. Their service is attentive and intentional and they really made me and my friends feel at home. Specifically, Jazmine and Robert have been wonderful people to chat with and have made London such a blast.
I can not recommend this...
Read moreI never would have thought that after years of visiting this pub – and especially after leaving a 5-star review just last week – I would find myself in a position where I can’t give it more than one star. In fact, if I could leave zero stars, I would, because that’s exactly the level of service I received: none.
I felt completely unwelcome. I stood at the bar, waiting to be served, even though no one else was in line. No one acknowledged me. Eventually, the manager rushed over, and for a moment, I thought he was coming to help. But instead, he asked me point blank if I was ordering food.
When I asked why that mattered, he told me he was "managing the tables." I replied that I was probably going to order food for my girls, but apparently that wasn’t good enough for him. He left the bar without serving me.
My daughters saw the whole thing. When I returned to the table, they told me they felt really unwelcome – so we just left and went to the pub across the road, which has never let us down.
I’ll admit, this left me a little tearful. I don’t understand what I did wrong to be treated and spoken to like that. With a heavy heart, I have to say that my family and I won’t be returning – even though this used to be one of our favourite...
Read moreThis was the first place I stopped into once I got into London for the first time and when I say I would recommend this place to anyone I mean it. Jazmine, Robert, and Maddy all made me and my friends feel so welcome and at home with the best service and recommendations for our trip. The fish and chips are amazing, and their lamb roast dinner on Sundays is incredible. I'm from the US and had never had a British roast dinner and it was the perfect introduction, alongside the cauliflower cheese that Maddy recommended. We also tried the toffee pudding and when I say it's to die for I'm not exaggerating. In terms of drinks, I've had the espresso martini, passion fruit martini, and Aperol spritz, and they're all amazing. We also did the pub quiz on Sunday night and had the best time. The casual but classy environment mixed with top notch service and food makes this the perfect spot to become a regular and mix with the locals if you're visiting. I've gone 4 days in a row now, and I will certainly be going back while...
