The Clerk & Well — Restaurant in London

We had the pleasure today to host the meal for our daughter’s Baptism at the Clerk and Well. I actually don’t know where to start - I can’t believe how amazing the people and this place are! If you are looking to host an event in the Clerkenwell area, look no further. First, Claudia made the booking process so easy and was super quick at responding to emails ahead of the event. Then today we got there and I was AMAZED at how beautifully she had prepared the area and decorated the tables! So perfect and caring. We then had our meal and despite a little issue with the wait time, we had delicious food and all hiccups were handled gracefully. Lori and all staff were so kind and caring at all times even though I’m sure I was a pain at times! Then the drama: I was so upset as my daughter lost a gold pendant just gifted to her from her godmother. We searched EVERYWHERE with no luck, but the staff promised to look and Lori took my number. After a few minutes of us leaving the venue, Lori called me to tell me they had found the pendant in my daughter’s ice-cream bowl when cleaning up and draining the leftovers in the sink! I was amazed at her kindness and care as she saw I was visibly sad due to this. She truly went the extra mile to help and to ensure in keeping the pendant safe until my friend was able to get back to the venue and retrieve it. What a star. Thank you! I would 100% go back there and recommend the place to friends and family. Thank you Lori and Claudia, you saved the day, I really mean it!...

Four of us stayed here for a birthday weekend in London, arriving early afternoon on Friday and leaving on Monday morning. We were delighted with our choice and were made to feel very welcome. The pub downstairs was still closed and so the rooms were really quiet with very effective double glazing and brilliant air conditioning, which we needed as it was very warm and leaving the windows open would have been noisy. Having said that, the area was quiet all weekend and only really came to life on Monday, which we didn’t mind at all. The rooms here are really nice and have a lot of character with every comfort and amenity, though we didn’t spend very much time there as we were out enjoying London. The bed was very comfortable and there was an excellent shower and very nice towels. The links to transport are excellent. We used the NCP car park a 5 minute walk away which was very secure. Buses and the tube are within easy reach of the pub so it was great for getting around. Even though many of the local cafes were still closed post-COVID, there were two really good breakfast places nearby and there will be many more once everything opens up again. We enjoyed going out for breakfast and the quality of cafes was really high in the street just opposite the pub. We would highly recommend the Clerk and Well and...

Very busy spot. Went here for a lunch with a friend and it's the type of place that everyone goes to for good food. But that's the only reason why they go. The staff behind the bar are loud, before the lunchtime rush I was the only person in there so the need to shout at and over each other was unexplainable. But didn't make for a fantastic working environment while waiting for friend. Next, upon arrival, I sat at one of the 30 odd free tables to be told it was reserved. I went to move to another and was told again that was reserved for a big group. Third time lucky not quite. I just asked the waitress where she wanted me to sit because it shouldn't be that difficult. A little thing but, the lemonade was out of syrup. Judging an establishment by how it serves a soft drink option is an essential to me. It's fairly simple and easy thing to check on and do. You have gas cylinders which pumps carbon into the drink, and boxes / bags of syrup which gives the drink the sickening sweet taste. I never ask for ice because it's often cold enough and makes the drink flat quicker and then I can't actually compare. But the syrup had gone.

Maybe if the staff weren't shouting at each other and paid more attention to the simplicity of checking pumps and quality before service I would have nudged...
