On Sunday I took my 95 year old mother for lunch. The meal was ok, the same quality as similar gastro pubs, though a bit more expensive…beef tasted a bit boiled, vegetables were ok.
At the end of the meal I asked for the bill and then paid the waiter who had served us throughout the meal.
Minutes later as I got up to help my mother, a man blocked my path with his back to the exit, put this head inches from mine and accused me of trying to leave without paying the bill.
I felt insulted and my mother was embarrassed by this. The man could easily have asked the waiter who served us if we had paid, but he chose not to do so.
We wrote on the online booking form that we needed a table for two near the door as my 95 year old mother had mobility issues. The man supposedly thought we had booked a table near the door with the intention of running away without paying.
My mother walks with great difficulty it would have taken me five minutes to get her up and take her out of the pub so the owner should have realized this by looking at her.
The entire situation really upset my mother so at that point I asked the man if I could speak to the owner and he said he was the owner. I was in total disbelief so I asked the waiter if this was true and he confirmed it was.
We have the receipt and my mother was a witness to what occurred if the pub intends...
Read moreWe’ve just come from a really disappointing Christmas Eve experience! We made a reservation two weeks in advance for our Family of 5 Adults and 3 children. We chose this Pub after looking at the special Holiday menu online. When we arrived and tried to order the holiday meal, we were told we would have needed to have done so ten days in advance! We were not told this when we made the reservation and this wasn’t mentioned online. Disappointing but fine. We ordered from the standard Pub menu. The appetizers were truly not fit to eat- Brie( cold and unable to spread- Crab Cake(all bread/no crab) and corn ribs ( no taste) we waited an additional hour for the entrees which was tough with 3 young children. My daughter and I ordered Fish and chips which were so oily and fishy smelling we barely touched them. The rest of the entrees were acceptable but no love and certainly nothing special. The service was absolutely terrible but I can’t blame the wait staff as there were only two women trying to serve the entire restaurant! Not an enjoyable experience but especially disappointing because we were here gathered to celebrate. There are so many wonderful Pubs in London but this is one I...
Read moreI recently stopped by Clifton NW8 and had a great time! The atmosphere is just what you want from a pub – cozy, relaxed, and full of character. It's the perfect spot to unwind with friends or even just enjoy some time alone with a good drink.
Speaking of drinks, Clifton NW8 has an impressive selection. The pub drinks are spot-on, with a variety of craft beers, ales, and classic pub options. Everything I tried was well-poured and hit the spot. a 12.5% service charge automatically added to the bill. This practice feels unfair and frustrating. While I understand that tipping itis customary, it should be at the discretion of the customer based on the quality of service received.
Automatically adding a service charge takes away the personal choice and can feel like an unwelcome surprise when the bill arrives. It also puts pressure on customers to pay extra, regardless of whether the service was exceptional or just average. I'd much prefer to have the option to tip according to my own experience and satisfaction.
If you're looking for a place with a great vibe and solid drinks, Clifton NW8 is definitely worth checking out. I’ll definitely be...
