Well. Gastropub prices, and well cooked food, but not homemade. Then there's the attention to detail. We had reserved a table that unfortunately was wobbly but nice location, and had to order at the bar. I spied a wine that looked interesting, it had a tag for ÂŁ24.50, but turned out to be ÂŁ34, I was advised of this, the St Emilion wine was actually superb. Starter was a Tarte Tatin, outstanding, devilled whitebait good but a little limp and not very devilish. Main, Miso Aubergine very tasty, but needed peeling as the skin was leathery, chicken pie was cridp and hot but basically a pukka pie, roasted roots disappointed as onion with a bit of carrot. Where was the Parsnips etc? And the side of tenderstem broccoli was lacklustre. Dessert was nice, brownie with Hazelnut ice cream and the crumble was absent, so we chose the sticky toffee, nice but very generic and found in a local oneills. Toilets as pictured were not conducive to a pleasant experience, not checked and not updated. Overall could do better, and there are a plethora of restaurants in Wanstead to voice from we won't hurry to return. Recommendations for a improved rating Table service for bookings More toilet checks Robust pricing checks, re wine, especially as it seemed like a delist Attention to detail with vegetable cooking, and not skimping on cheap ingredients Full availability

Despite a previous less-than-ideal experience, Lizi and the team's handling of the situation and invitation prompted me to return. We came back for the second time for Sunday lunch and between the three of us shared the prawns and calamari for starters (both good) and the pork belly roast (pork belly was cooked perfectly and was tasty but the sides still fell slightly short), hake (good) and sirloin (cooked to medium rare with a delicious accompanying sauce) for mains and the apple berry crumble (very enjoyable) for dessert. The service was helpful and friendly (they didn't know we were back for the second time). ---- Initial review dated Nov 2023 This was probably the worst Sunday roast I've had in London. I got the beef and it came out cold and overcooked, so I sent it back. It came back out just being heated in the microwave - I would have expected them to replace the meal. The beef was now even more tough and chewy. The potatoes were not crispy but soggy, the other vegetables like the parsnip and carrots were undercooked and the gravy was so tasteless and runny. My other friends got the pork belly and said the meat was ok but again, the sides were all soggy and gross. We had to constantly flag staff to get attention to serve us and it was just mediocre all round.

Fantastic Pub Experience with a Beautiful Beer Garden! Went to The Cuckfield in Wanstead for a quick drink and some nibbles, and it turned out to be a delightful experience! The pub had a lovely atmosphere with its charming interior. The 3 for ÂŁ16 deal on bar food was a steal, considering the area's prices. I was impressed by their extensive selection of cocktails, which catered to all tastes. However, the real gem was the stunning beer garden at the back, undoubtedly one of the best in London. Even during a busy Father's Day lunchtime, the service remained quick and efficient. Highly recommended!

Booked a table for six yesterday, the whole process of scanning the track & trace was rather protracted & caused unnecessary queues at the door. Being that everyone had to prebook surely the proprietor would have considered how many staff would be required in order to prevent ridiculous delays in being served. The system also failed preventing people from placing orders. Moreover our food arrived one at a time & was cold. All in all it was an expensive experience that I would not wish to repeat especially as the prices for drinks & food have been hyped. So much for having time to prepare following lockdown, this establishment was a huge disappointment.

My response to The Cuckfield's rational for poor quality food & service.

Hi again

With all due respect as an NHS employee I'm fully aware of the regulations pertaining to track & trace, that was not the issue but rather that the QR code was low down on a plinth thus making it difficult to scan whilst holding coats/bags etc; placing it at eye level I'm sure would be more efficient.

Whilst the environment must be ventilated of course that is absolutely not a good reason to serve cold food espcecially at a cost of ÂŁ13 for a burger & chips I expect more, wouldn't you agree?

We have all been aware of when pubs would were due to reopen, adequate time to engage enough staff etc. On the plus side the staff were very polite & apologetic !

I hope you have managed to rectify your teething problems, it's fair to say that only the Cuckfield were not prepared, we visited 3 other establishments near by & had a very pleasant time & good hot food too.

I would not rush back or recommend The Cuckfield in Wanstead.

I don’t normally write negative reviews, but a full day afterwards and I’m still quite upset about how my family and I were treated by this pub. We got turfed off our table with virtually no warning, like it was a work canteen, halfway through our not inexpensive meal and with no help to find somewhere else to sit. Someone who looked like a manager was off-hand, dismissive and implied he didn’t care about our experience but just wanted to free up the table. This left me to shepherd two elderly infirm parents around a packed pub on a Saturday afternoon carrying glasses of wine and plates of half-eaten food.

I like the pub, been there a few times and the food is good, but it's the first and last time I'm taking people there for a meal. It was embarrassing and uncomfortable.

A Saturday afternoon shortly before Christmas, so seats were understandably scarce. But there were too many tables crammed in and a serious failing in highlighting if tables were reserved when paying for the food in advance - bad signage and no mention when ordering and paying, despite the fact we had to give the table number which was entered into their system.

Shortly after our food finally arrived we were told we had to vacate our table because it was apparently reserved in 7 minutes’ time, but no help was given as to where my elderly disabled parents could find an accessible seat to continue eating their meal. The first member of staff who came up to our table was perfectly polite, but then a second person (who looked like management) appeared 2 minutes later, oblivious that we'd already been told and was verging on rude (for avoidance of doubt, we didn't try to refuse to move). The signage was a chalked scrawl next to the table number that appeared to indicate it had been reserved at 1.30pm and that those patrons were to "leave @ 4.45pm". We’d sat down at gone 4pm assuming the table was now free for the rest of the afternoon. Again, nothing was said when we gave our table number and paid for the food order with 40 mins to go. We'd only picked that table because the one we'd sat at first was being blasted with cold air every 2 minutes by people leaving the fire exit open coming and going from the beer garden. Another table became free just in time, but after having to scan the room for 5 minutes while our food got cold, wondering if we were going to find ourselves in an argument, we couldn’t enjoy the rest of our meal and didn’t bother with...

Not sure where to begin with this review. I came with my family and friends on Sunday for a Sunday lunch. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly manager, then it all went down hill. We stated that my daughter is coeliac, we were told that due to a new law, legally they are not allowed to offer any dietary information to us, but that if we use the online menu when ordering then it would make things clearer. Using the online menu simply states that the dish contains gluten...that went for pretty much all the dishes available on that day. After a very difficult conversation with the staff we finally managed to agree that probably not ALL of every dish was containing gluten and perhaps we could figure something out. So we ordered eventually a pork belly with ‘heritage potatoes’ (Aparantly mixed coloured potatoes...they were in fact just boiled unseasoned undressed new potatoes), some shrivelled up peas and some pork (no crackling!!). The reason I was given as to why my daughter could not eat the Sunday roast, was that whilst most of the items are gluten free, they don’t know if maybe the chefs from the previous day or in the morning when prepping the roast potatoes and vegetables maybe crossed contaminated, because the kitchen supervisor wasn’t there to see, in my opinion all the staff should be trained and have a knowledge of food hygiene and allergies, the kitchen manager should be able to give instructions and rely on them to be carried out without his or her presence, the fact that maybe flour got spilt onto veg at some point either the day before or in the morning doesn’t work as an excuse for me. My daughter didn’t enjoy the food but we were happy that they had at least attempted to cook her something. We did have to fight and negotiate this though. After 30 minutes had passed we cancelled the rest of the meal as the dishes my partner and I had ordered did not arrive. When I brought it to the attention they said that the check had been cancelled, so we wouldn’t have received the dish anyway. They did refund the meals thankfully! The beer tasted fine, clean premises. I see a very VERY disjointed team of staff that are worried about putting a foot wrong when it comes to offering advice on dietary requirements. I’ve eaten in a lot of establishments, some exceptional, many great, none have been nearly as atrocious as this place, I would...
