The Dog House 🚇 Kennington 🍺 £5.30 Amstel ❤️ What a great name for a pub! . This Kennington boozer was a great find, full of charm and character and service with a smile. The pub is a five minute walk from Kennington tube, I would recommend to take a walk through Cleaver Square en route so you can pop in to The Prince Wales which is definitely worth a pit stop at. The Dog House has that shabby chic feel about it with big comfy armchairs, stripped back tables and chairs and the odd church pew. The walls have loads of old-school posters, bear heads wearing hats and birdcages hanging from the ceiling which makes the place quirky and welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxed, enjoyed listening to the jazz funk playing in the background whilst quaffing my first pint of which turned out to be many that day. The food looked good and was reasonably priced so thats another big tick. . Can’t really fault this boozer as it looks great inside and out, the atmosphere was spot on and the beer and food are on point. It’s not often someone will encourage you to get in The Dog House but I will. 📊 Information correct on visiting 06/08/22

This is a beautiful rustic building... I love the way it welcomes you in with comfy sofas... Huge covered seating area outside... Tastefully lit but not overpowering... Nathen (landlord) has been very accommodating each time I've visited and the lady behind the bar (sorry didn't catch your name 🤗) was immensely helpful today guiding my daughter from Waterloo station to kennington. The Dog House has an upstairs seating and eating area, where you could easily eat / Drink and relax with friends, For all you students why not grab some drinks and spend time finishing some study work away from the hustle of the London hub bub. Photos show it's lovely and clean with plenty of seating for everyone... A real honest British pub !!

Been drinking here for over 27 years and it's always been fine: beer's good, decent spirits, food's nice, staff are generally OK (you always get one) ... until now. Watched in disgust the other night as a guy was turned away at the bar for being in 'work clothes'. He was wearing a t-shirt and black cargo pants. Apparently, you can enjoy a relaxing after-work drink here if you have a nice office job, maybe an estate agent or something, but not if your job involves anything manual. What if I turned up in paramedic uniform? Do I get kicked out too? This policy is going to lose the Doghouse a lot of customers. So much for it being a 'public' house. Absolutely appalling attitude. Sad, but we will not be going back.

I am local to this pub and have been in here a lot over the last few months. I first went in there in August the weekend of my wedding and had an amazing experience ,11 people came and were raving about the place. Brought 13 people back for my friends birthday recently and we didn’t have the best experience with the food or service but I thought it was a slip up and would have let it slide as we all had a good night catching up but after my experience today I will 100% never recommend this pub and will not return and realise my first bad experience wasn’t a one off.

I understand places can be understaffed and usually wouldn’t write a review but I brought my parents here today and I really felt so angry leaving. Firstly we went to bar and they asked me to wait 15 mins and come back to order food as they were under pressure. No problem I ordered drinks but their coffee machine was broken , ordered Beer and wine and said I’ll get a coffee for my mother in the coffee cart across the road but they guy said that wasn’t allowed. Fair enough I asked for a tea and I reluctantly got a tea and paid for the drinks.15 mins later went up to order food off a different barman and a lot of stuff I wanted to order from menu was now gone so ordered something else. Asked for another cup of tea for my father and he told me they didn’t serve tea it finished. He was very unpleasant and abrupt . I explained I literally just got a pot of tea and he said no it was now finished. I went to pay for food and he said they didn’t except Amex. I explained I just paid for the drinks order with Amex no problem and he said no they don’t take it . Again a lot of places don’t take Amex this wasn’t what annoyed me it was his bad manner and the fact that I literally had paid for the drinks with Amex so like the lies he told me about the tea ,he just couldn’t be bothered. I paid with another card and then asked him could he charge my phone behind the bar , he smirked and said no. I left the bar and felt really disappointed and didn’t want to be there. Food came out staggered and 2 people were completely finished the food before the last 2 meals came . Food was fine no complaints about this.

I really felt uncomfortable in this pub and it was like they didn’t want customers in there. And I am super disappointed I told my parents they were going to enjoy this place and built it up, saying good vibes etc .. we got the...

I visited this establishment with a friend of mine looking to have a few pints and blow some steam after a stressful day at work. The beer garden was nice and staff reasonably friendly until I became a bit peckish and needed some food. I inquired about a menu and was told that the kitchen was closed, I queried as to why and was told that it was none of my business. I decided to get some food from across the road as there were no signs in the pub saying that this wasn't permitted, great kebab opposite by the way. I returned to the beer garden and was interrupted quite rudely by a member of staff they told me that outside food was not permitted, naturally I queried why this was just to be told that this was the policy, again I asked as to the reason why the kitchen was closed and again was denied any information and told that it wasn't relevant. Somewhat disgruntled I then asked to speak to a manager (got my Karen on) the manager then reiterated that there was no reason as to why but we could not continue eating in the premises (beer garden) and threatened to call the police, I was taken back and replied that I was nearly finished and that would be a waste of both police time and tax payers money, the manager then snatched the drinks from our table. As I prepared to leave the establishment I was confronted by the self proclaimed "land lord" who was extremely aggressive and began throwing all sorts of slander and obscenities toward me and asked me to go outside as to proposition a brawl. I questioned his maturity but did follow suit and left the premises. The landlord then continued his verbal onslaught and kept asking that we fought. I found the whole ordeal comical- would not recommend visiting this pub, the landlord clearly has Napoleon complex or some deep...

I rarely leave reviews but I felt so uncomfortable visiting the dog house I had to share my experience. The one star is for the ladies behind the bar who were more warm and welcoming ( the food was also quite nice). Upon entering with my 3 children at 4.05pm, we were not greeted even though there were 4 members of staff behind the bar (only one serving) so we went to find a seat. We were quickly followed by the manager to say children had to leave by 5pm as per the license. A little early……but not a problem IF this is what the license states, it was the abrupt approach with no welcome that was the issue. I went to order a beef burger and asked for no pulled beef I was told food could not be modified - God forbid I had an allergy to any of the ingredients on the menu or I would still be hungry. Again the attitude was rude, standoffish, it was if I was putting him out by being served. After I ordered each item the response was “is that it “ “is that it”. He just wanted me to go away basically. I would love to say my kids were “being kids” and making noise and playing but I felt so uncomfortable I made them eat quickly in near enough silence so we could get out of there and not feel anymore of a hinderance. PARENTS/GUARDIANS just don’t even bother bring your children here they are not welcome. Even without my kids I will never attend there again and I live two roads away. The tankard is a lovely spot and not too far from here. After reading the comments it’s shocking someone higher up has not addressed staffing and done some retraining or reshuffling. The guy that served me was clearly new but following by his managers example....
