I and my family arranged a table at the Spread Eagle. Upon arrival, we were required to wait for our table to be set up. Once our table was properly prepared, we were introduced to our table.
Upon arrival, the staff presented the menu. The staff was extremely cordial, and allowed us to select our meal items. Upon perusing the menu, there were no choices for children.
She did not even bother to visit the sheff to inquire about any suggestions or actions she could take for me as a customer.
This was a disappointment for me, as it is common practice for most pubs to offer something suitable for children or an alternative.
Upon the return of the staff member, I inquired about other options for children. The response from the staff member was that our Sunday menu consisted of this. They did not show any duty of care towards me. Consequently, I was compelled to order flatbread and hummus. Additionally, I was requested to order extra portions of roasted potatoes. Which was overpriced at £5.50 each. As the food options was very limited for children.
We subsequently inquired with another staff member about other alternatives for children. Her response was let me confirm with my manager, it was determined that the individual responsible for our food order was the manager. This led to a further escalation of the situation, as the manager demonstrated poor duty of care. Furthermore, there was no flexibility or willingness to engage with the sheff to determine if there was anything they could do.
I mentioned this in the reservation, stating that my children would be attending. However, no one has returned to inform me that there are no suitable options for children on the Sunday menu.
Upon the arrival of the food, the server referred to "Beet Wellington". We had previously ordered beef Wellington, We repeatedly requested "beef Wellington", but were not corrected or informed about the menu item being served.
The food was somewhat disappointing, The Yorkshire pudding was unfortunately burnt. The roast potatoes were slightly overdone. In summary, the meal was rather disappointing, with no particular advantage to the meal at all.
During our meal, no staff members checked on us to ensure we were satisfied with the meal, nor did any staff members conduct a post-meal check to ensure we were satisfied with the meal. This is a common practice.
Despite the confusion with the meal. We was all left very unsatisfied. Question weather we will be returning to the...
Read moreClub Mexicana is an all vegan Mexican street food stall that trades in Camden and Shoreditch. It now has a residency (from Thursday to Sunday) in the Spread Eagle in Homerton which became London’s first entirely vegan pub in January this year!
The Spread Eagle is a gorgeous pub – the bar sits in the middle and the decor is very quirky with beautiful artwork mixing with a day of the dead type shrine but it really works. When we visited it was busy but not overcrowded and had a great atmosphere. The music was right up our street too and we felt relaxed and comfortable there. Oh wow the food – a vegans dream! We started with some tacos, the Carnitas: jackfruit in mojo de ajo with pico de gallo & salsa verde and Carne Asada: marinated seitan, pink onions, salsa verde, arbol chilli sauce & coriander. Both were so delicious and full of flavour! Spread Eagle First Vegan Pub in London
This was followed by the Deep Fried Cheeze, the Chick’n Wings and the Chorizo Quesadilla. The deep fried cheeze was delicious, filled with luscious vegan cheese which oozed out of its fried casing it was indulgent and gorgeous. The chick’n wings were crispy and herby and went great with the salsa verde. The quesadilla was really flavoursome and packed an almighty punch! It was too much for my wimpy mouth but it did taste great.
Then we tried the burger to end all burgers – The MFC (Mexican Fried Chicken): Mexico City’s answer to the fried chicken burger, annatto glazed fried chick’n with mustard mayo, pickled cabbage & dill. Oh my gosh…this burger was heavenly, with crispy fried chick’n topped with the pickled cabbage and dill it was a taste sensation – I could eat it every day until I die!
The Spread Eagle serves up delicious lagers and ales to match the food but true to myself I stuck to prosecco! My friend tried a lovely Camden Hells lager when the Quesadilla got too much for her and she really enjoyed it.
I will be back – an amazing pub with fun staff and incredible vegan food. I can’t sing their...
Read moreMy family and I made reservations for a table at Spread Eagle, as we entered, the staff were welcoming. The ambiance was exceptional, and the ambiance wasn't overly unpleasant, even though there was no music.
It was evident that the restaurant was dogfriendly, which did not pose any challenge for us as we are avid animal lovers.
However, the menu was very limited and did not accommodate any options for children. We all selected what we believed was Beef Wellington, from the staff who processed our order and confirmed it by repeating the order back to use. We asked if there was a children's menu and they unfortunately no. We requested an alternative such as a burger and chips, and were promptly informed that there was no such option available. The manager did not even bother to inquire about any suggestions or actions she could take for me as a customer.
We concluded that we would need to purchase two different sides for a child, which consisted of roast potatoes and three slices of bread topped with hummus and a touch of virginoil, which was priced at £5.50 each.
Upon receiving our food and being greeted by the staff with "beet Wellington", we experienced a slight confusion due to our initial assumption that we had ordered beef Wellington. The food was somewhat disappointing, there was no special treatment for the meal. The Yorkshire pudding was unfortunately burnt. The roast potatoes were slightly overdone. In summary, the meal was rather disappointing, with no significant advantage to the meal at all.
During our meal, there was no staff member present to ensure our satisfaction with the meal. Similarly, there was no post-meal check conducted by any staff member to ensure our satisfaction with the meal. This is a common practice in majority of restaurants or bups.
Would we return to this place again? Absolutely not. This pub should consider developing a kid's menu, instead of only offering certain items such as burgers and chips on Mondays...
