Decent Saturday lunch date. We've just moved to Beckenham and we'll come here again :) The best thing about this place is the staff. Warm, proactive and eager to please, they made us feel very welcome and couldn't do enough for us. The atmosphere is overall, very nice. The building itself is a beautiful, classic old town public house. The fruit machine and the slightly tacky decorations (sorry... I'm sure many others enjoy them but not for me) mar what is otherwise a gorgeous rustic aesthetic. The food lets the place down a bit. Don't get me wrong - it's fine and good value for money. The menu does give you a great variety of choices. £11 for burger and chips these days is good, especially in London. However, from a well established, independent pub that offers four different burger options I'd expect something special. Cheese and bacon burger: The "brioche-style" burger bun is a non-brioche toasted bun. Brioche would've lifted it, whereas the result here is the burger seems dry. The patty looks to have been frozen and the lettuce and burger sauce have a school dinner/supermarket feel about them. Fair play to The George for being reasonably priced, but they could consider raising the bar a bit. I'd happily pay £3 more for a juicy fresh burger with a brioche bun. The Hallumi fries and onion rings are okay, again pretty bog standard and varying between juicy and dry, but for the price they're okay. Food overall just a notch above Wetherspoons. The drink selection is good. I was boring and had a Brewdog on tap, next time will sample the ales. 4/5 - a decent lunch date. Interested to see how the atmosphere is in the evening.

The in place in Beckenham guaranteed to meet someone you know there. Excellent selection of traditional ales and ciders, and lagers with a twist.. Brewdog, Camden represented. I recommend Brewdogs clockwork tangerine at 4.5 easy drinking ipa. Good selection of food available as well at a fair price ..large beer garden some covered at the side and adults only area for those who want to be romantic and alone. Good friendly staff it can get very busy so be patient if you have a small wait for your drink, that's all part of drinking in a popular venue. A security presence when we were there ensures an enjoyable time without the drunken rebels Well worth a visit

Came in for some food and a pint. Staff were friendly and the pub itself was nice enough. I just don’t understand why some places bother serving food, if all they can muster is some dry, frozen burger that looked and tasted like it came straight from Iceland. I had to dig deep to find traces of the signature burger sauce, spoiler alert, it was just plain old burger sauce from a squeeze bottle, wheezing it’s last splatterings onto our soggy buns. What a sad experience and waste of money. If you have low expectations when it comes to gastronomic experiences, I highly recommend. The beer was lovely.

After enjoying the pub quiz for a duration of 18 months on a weekly basis, our group has recently received a request to refrain from further participation. This decision was communicated to us by one of the staff members, as the landlady temporarily assumed the role of quiz master. Throughout our participation, our group always maintained a lively and jovial atmosphere, viewing the event as an opportunity to reconnect with friends and unwind after a day's work.

Regrettably, we were handed a written notice this week, indicating that we are no longer permitted to partake in the quiz. This decision was seemingly influenced by the landlady's dissatisfaction with our corrections of her mispronunciations and a slight delay in our submission for a spot prize, which exceeded the allotted time by a mere 10 seconds. It is worth noting that this notice was presented to us after the entire group had already ordered food, resulting in a significant expenditure of nearly £100. Consequently, it is evident that our group and an entire football team have decided to abstain from future participation in the quiz, as well as refrain from patronizing the establishment for food and drinks.

To be candid, since the quiz master transitioned, the pub's atmosphere has noticeably declined in terms of vibrancy and liveliness. I would like to offer a sincere suggestion to seek alternative venues where the landlord fosters a more welcoming and accommodating environment, appreciating the establishment's nature as a social gathering place rather than treating it as a...

UPDATE: After leaving the below review the manager took my phone number from what should have been a private track and trace details list and called me and left numerous voice messages for me to change my review. AVOID. ORIGINAL: Do not go here for some post lockdown beer garden sunshine. They have blocked all sunshine with needless covering and refuse to let you move into the sunshine despite the fact the free tables are not booked for hours away. Terrible planning to have empty tables in the sunshine for several hours feet away from paying customers who came for pub sunshine. I had a booking for 4 hours with every intention of having lunch and dinner there but it was too cold to stay. I could literally reach out and touch the empty sunny table but they wouldn't let us move there. I appreciate their point of view that they can't let everyone move tables but all I ask is to plan better. Do not book out your best tables in the sun for 5pm rendering them useless all day. They are throwing money down the drain. If you want post lockdown sunshine in a beer garden, go literally anywhere else on Beckhenham...
