June 2023: Went to this lovely restaurant serving Indian cuisine for the first time recently on a Saturday evening with my husband. The venue is lovely overlooking Beddington Park and a big bonus is you can park there. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was ok although not the best but to be fair they were hugely busy with several large parties of people so understandable under the circumstances and certainly didn't spoil our evening. We will definitely be making this one of our go to places to eat.
Update November 2024: Original review five stars, now downgraded to one star. This restaurant is geared up for groups of people, then you get treated well. If you are a couple you will be put on a table for two right next to another table for two which is tucked away near the kitchen door even when the restaurant is practically empty. I went for lunch with a friend several weeks ago, we were shown to one of the tables for two even though the restaurant was practically empty - it would have been nice to have a table overlooking the park. No problem, we hadn’t seen each other for a year so had lots to talk about. They then placed a husband and wife couple bang next to us who had absolutely nothing to say to each other the whole time and seemed to only want to listen to our conversation which was easy as their table was about 30cm away from ours, so we were forced to practically whisper to each other for the remainder of our lunch (and still loads of empty tables in the restaurant). Ruined the lunch for me. Then about two weeks ago I came here again for lunch with my husband and guess where they tried to seat us? Yes, the ‘couples tables’ with no view even though again the restaurant was practically empty. My husband declined to be seated there and they then offered us a booth…those bench seats in the booth are really uncomfortable and again no view. We placed a large order and we could not believe it when we realised the food had been put in cold serving dishes and our plates were also not warmed so the food was lukewarm before we even started eating. It was such a disappointing experience. I guess they were too busy with the group of about five or six people who turned up shortly after us. I suggest you choose somewhere else if you’re a couple otherwise be prepared...
Read moreI recently had dinner at this restaurant with my husband. We are vegetarian and the only dish I had which my husband didn't was aloo burman. I have previously had this dish here,so knew what to expect, but what I got was nothing like what I had had previously, it tasted awful. Later that evening I was extremely nauseous and unable to eat for 24 hours, after that even though I was able to eat the nausea lasted for a further over 24 hours. The day after I ate at the restaurant I contacted the manager to let them know about the effect the dish had on me. Instead of a genuine apology, I got excuses that the nausea could have been caused by something I ate previously, also as the dish was vegetarian it was unlikely to be the cause of my illness. The manager said I should have complained while I was at the restaurant, I don't know how I could have foreseen that it would make me ill, and they offered me one free dish for when I go there next time. As the illness lasted for over 48 hours, I messaged the manager again to explain that everything I had comsumed previously had been cooked by myself and also consumed by the rest of my family, none of them have been ill. In my home only vegetarian food is cooked, whereas in the restaurant meat is also prepared and cooked in the same area, so I think there was probably cross contamination. I was only looking for a genuine apology, instead of that I was offered one free dish for everything I had suffered, I can't say I was impressed! The manager didn't even have the courtesy to reply to my second message! In addition to the ill effects the food had on me, I noticed the carpet section they had at the back was quite dirty, and as we were among the first people to eat there that evening, it doesn't look like cleanliness is important, that leads me to wonder what the hygiene standard in the...
Read moreI had heard really good things about The Grange, so my wife and I decided to give it a go tonight. Great atmosphere, lots of people enjoying themselves. My wife ordered Pani Puri as a starter, whilst I went for the Sheekh kebab. My wife's starter arrived almost instantaneously. Mine took longer. About 20 mins after my wife received her starter I enquired as to where my sheekh kebab was. The lady replied that it takes long to make (I had just seen the people on the next table receive a sheekh kebab and they ordered after us!!) Another 15 minutes passed and I mentioned to another staff member that I still hadn't received my starter. She went away to investigate and soon returned saying the ticket had been lost with our order and it would be there shortly, a different story from earlier. Anyhow after another 5 minutes my starter finally arrived. It was given to me with no apology by the lady who said it takes long to make. In fact she couldn't get away quick enough after putting the starter down on the table. To be fair the starter was superb, but the ambience of my wife and I enjoying a meal together was somewhat ruined by that point. Anyhow the mains arrived soon after and they were fantastic, Food-wise I cannot praise The Grange enough. Anyhow, when they brought the bill, it was brought over by neither of the two ladies who had served us earlier. I told the man who brought the bill the issues with the starter. He was apologetic but offered no good will gesture to counter the experience we had. As my wife and I left we passed both the ladies we had dealt with earlier. Neither apologised, they just looked at us sheepishly as we left. In summary. Food wise its great, but it looks like they were more focused on looking after the larger groups of people rather than me and my wife. Won't be visiting again any time soon,...
